My AC uses a Groco ASG 500 strainer, how do you remove the filter to clean it? I can remove the four screws holding the clear bowl and wipe the strainer mesh but it has to be removable, right? Also, it has a slow seep of water around the top, is there an O-ring or some kind of seal that needs to be replaced every so often?

Are you sure it's not an ARG 500?
Mine has a cap on top with 3 nubs, you loosen the cap and there is an o'ring under the cap. Once removed, you simply remove the basket to clean. 15 seconds to remove, if that...

Yes it is an ARG 500, typo on my part. Thanks I'll give it a try.
BTW, does the top just screw off? What do you use to loosen it?

those plastic caps are supposed to be hand tightened only... if some $%*&^#$%^ used a wrench to tighten it you may have to do the same to undo it!

My cap looks to be bronze along with the rest of the "body" of the strainer. The clear bowl is plastic.

Mine, the plastic top simply unscrews and the strainer lifts out for cleaning. Do NOT use a wrench to reinstall it.

What Sandy said. Is nice to have a second screen so you can change them on the fly a clean the dirty one at your leisure.

When you have the strainer out, use a toilet bowl cleaner brush to clean the inside of the site glass ....helps to be able to 'see' if there is any junk in the strainer before it clogs.

if the cap is bronze you cant tap it loose with a rubber mallet or hammer.

Thanks guys, thats the info I needed. I figured there had to be a tool for the job. Now where to find one?

Any store that can order from Groco can get it for you. Or Google it. Heck, you can find pin faced spanners on Ebay.
