Ground Wire

It's a 6000i with the 4kw Dome. It has the ns004781 Proceesor

Doug,
"Now if anyone of the resident smartasses would like to show an idiot like me how to do it. I would be gladly pay airfare and all expenses because I'm almost out of ideas."

Now that was funny :)

Bruce, guess what your bonding system is connected to. Yes it is nicer to have the greens attached to ground in a consistent manner. And I sincerely apologize if I implied the OP was asking a dumb question. I was more taken aback by some of the replies.

Back in the day when I had my LORAN, it had a separate frame ground too. I was advised that in the best world, I should have a grounding block under my hull on the opposite side of where my depth sounder was located. I should then tie any electronic equipment frame ground to that grounding block. I was told the less desireable method, although usually acceptable, was to tie the frame ground to the hull bonding system. I was further advised that my hull bonding system should tie all under water metals together except for stainless (don't include the trim tabs). This is different from the 12v electrical ground, which comes back to your 12v distribution panel/grounding point.

I chose the second method because I also wanted to ensure that I protected all of my under water metal from stray current corrosion too. The funny thing is that I was told to tie my bonding system to my engine block. Ultimately, that ends up making it back to your distribution panel too. But I never had any interference with that LORAN and always had tripple 8's on my signal strength.

Cat,
Your remarks were outright rude and condescending to the OP. You should keep your mouth shut if you have nothing constructive to add to the question. As noted, this is a site to learn from, not to be told your a dumb a$$ for asking questions. Sometimes very smart people ask questions you may feel they should know, In my case, like Doug here, we ask questions from the beginning , maybe so we can get something we missed.
We all have knowledge here to offer each other, rather than dis a question or worse in your case, be condescending, helping would be better.

Doug,
Try giving Roger a call over at CMI. Nice guy. Will probably respond to questions but charge if he has to come out.
Good luck.

Unbelievable.

Absolutely unbelievable.

Charlie your right.. We have not heard from Ghost since. He is obviously busy blogging on the Mensa forum.

Doug,
Let me visit this with you, sometimes different eyes can make all the difference. I seriously think you have a "connectivity" problem. But that is what I can help you put to bed. Here for you.

Walter

Doug, I'd take Walter up on his offer. Sometimes a different set of eyes will spot something that you normally wouldn't have missed.
If you get it figured out I would be interested in finding out what is the cause for intermittent loss of Radar on your setup.
Bill

Yeah, intermittent connection can be very frustrating to find. My auto GPS would sometimes show charging and other times would show low battery. I was so frustrated, I ripped out the cig lighter and rewired it. Still had the problem. Finally, while fooling with the fuses, I noticed one blade on the fuse looked lower. Sure enuff, it looked good but the blade would intermittently
make and lose contact though the 'S' in the fuse was intact.

Charlie,
Its got to be something as you described. I will give it a thought and look thru it.
Walt, I would love it. Sometime when it's warmer.
Doug

Doug, I did some digging let me know if this is a possibility with your setup. Check to make sure your software is up to date. Here is a link, I have seen software patches fix Radar problems on Garmin units.
Your MFD the 6000i should have software v7.76 then carefully match your Radar processor (switch) and model and pick the latest software depending on the model Radar you have.
Bill
Here is the manufactures software update file(s)

Doug,
Make sure you also check out the software version in the Radar processor. It can be found here.......

D Radar SW Rev 1.7.194
Are you good with setting up your laptop for a fixed IP? You will also need a CAT5 Crossover cable to connect your computer to the network.
If not there is a great Word Doc when you download and unzip the file D Radar SW Rev 1.7.194
Bill

Bill,
I have a compact flash card that I have used to update in the past. Last time I updated was about 4 yrs ago.

I would see if you have the latest revisions in all 3 units, the MFD, Processor/Network switch and Radar unit.
Looks like the last update for the 6000i was in 2008 so I assume your 4 year old update should be ok for the MFD.
Do you have the pulse type radar or broadband radar unit?
Bill

Bill,
There is nothing in my paperwork that tells me pulse or broadband.
How do you update software in the radar unit?
