Guys,
A few guys had their boats hauled over last few weeks and I can't get over the growth on the running gear ! So just keep an eye on engine temps and cruising speeds

I use to paint my running gear with bottom paint to prevent that......
 
I have not used the boat in about a 6 weeks, but have a mini vacation next week and plan on going to some FI place maybe SH. I guess the boat may run like crap unless I do a short haul bottom blast first..

I would short haul for sure ! Intakes I'm sure are junked over

Water is very murky. I couldn't even see tabs in marina but I felt around and they felt clean
AC seems slower pumping.

Rob, flushing AC with garden hose, AC on or off?
 
I'm glad you brought this up. back in the spring there were a bunch of threads in the ATC forum regarding running gear paints. Someone recommended Pettit Zinc Coat Barnacle Buster. Premise being barnacles dont grow on your zincs so they wont grow on something with zinc in the paint. Another guy recommended using Rustoleum Cold Galvanizing Paint as it has same ingredients as Pettits product. Pettit was $25 a can and rustoleum was $8 a can.

I have tried all sorts of paints over the years with the exception of Propspeed. I figured I'd give it a try and used the rustoleum. Cheap of me I know but I have spent much more in years past with crappy results. My boat went in the water in April. Little use until around memorial day and have made a few trips to FI so far. Sometimes staying a week and sometimes just 2 nights. The boat is strictly an overnighter. if i'm not going to stay overnite i just run around in the skiff for the day.

I dove under the boat last weekend and have zero growth on running gear. My tabs had crap growing but nothing that couldnt be scrubbed off. tabs see some sunlight too. No barnacles anywhere! I dont know how long this stuff will last though. I stay in for 2 winters and then out for one. If i can make it to next spring and do a short haul then i will be very happy.
 
It worked good for me also......I used regular cheap bottom paint on my underwater gear....props...shafts....rudders...tabs..... I had southbay strainers on all my intakes and I would remove them and slop paint inside and out....then clean all the holes with a 1/8 drill bit and re-bed them......NO gowth on anything under the water. I stayed in 11 1/2 months a year also
 
Lots of barnacles this year, warm water and lack of rain is the culprit.
 
Dave, ac off , attach hose after pump ! Also throw some bromine tabs in the ac strainer basket

I wanted to use my thoroflush which attaches to strainer. Not good?
 
Dave,

If you want to flush the a/c using the thoroflush, shut the thru hull, turn on the a/c and compressor and turn on the water.
 
I havent used the searay in over a month till last saturday. Bottom was fine, no issues, no growth on drives, or tabs..

That is what I usually do but I know Rob doesn't so was curious if maybe the pump restricts the flow and not as much junk comes out. I really want to get a forceful stream in there to clean the gunk out. I am also gonna add some bromine. I get a lot of rust out of AC unit. I am constantly cleaning below the thruhuls. I wonder if the bromine will help with that.

Daves trying to flush gunk from the ac condensor . The pump doesnt create enough pressure. HE has to attach the water hose after the pump and after any splitters if he has more then one ac system. The thoroflush is basically a winterizing tool.

The dirt line u see running down the side of the boat is from the water not properly exiting the tru hull. water is briblling down the side of the boat. Know-one wants to see dribble.... : )

Yeah, makes sense, hence the question.
So how do you attach the water hose after?
You make a fitting or you just ram it in (ouch)!
 
HA. Ace, Home depot sell an adaptor. Almost looks like a hose reair kit. Female hose thread on one side and a barbed fitting on the other. The barbed fitting SLIDES into the condenser hose then clamp it.

I used a 115v utility pump that I attached to the Thoroflush with a piece of garden hose to flush with water or suck pink from a 5 gal pail for winterization.....
