What is happening with the GSB? It seems very brown this year. Is this red-tide, or something else going on?

Safe to swim?

Thanks,

Jeff

Maybe the sewage plant in Babylon!

No, its the brown tide, water in the coves is pretty clean, seems to be mostly on the canals to the North.

From what I read the brown tide algae actually prefers cooler water so this should clear up as the water warms up. Hopefully that's the case.

Yup........... hopefully the warmer water temps kill off the algae......and it doesn't return again this fall.

It just looks like sewerage water.........

The water in the canals has been horrible since the Brown Tide hit, but I was really surprised at how relatively clean the water was in other spots including Hemlock Cove.

I can see the bottom of my canal for the first time in weeks. Tide is low, but even at low tide lately I couldn't see anything. Maybe it's starting to improve.

Just checked my canal................can't see the bottom yet....and its low tide..........WTF !!

I was going to post the same question when I went on my first sail of the year last week. Looks like muddy waters. No smell, a bit more eel grass than I am used to this time of the year. For a nice day, few boats on the water. Wonder if gas prices are really starting to hit people hard. My daughters first formal (listed on face book as in a relationship with) boyfriend just came over. They are going to study for a math final. Need to supervise this. Latter. alan
