When we purchased Wavefin, our current boat, we filed coast guard documentation to have her name changed to "Mrs Robinson". We were told the Hailing Port field for the coast guard documentation had to be where she would be slipped, "Hopewell, VA", so that is what we filled in on the form. We paid $525 to file this documentation with the coast guard to change her name.

We received our coast guard documents last week. The way we read the attached letter we must put "Hopewell, VA" with her name on the boat since that is the hailing port on the coast guard documentation. Our plan was to use "Bon Air, VA" which is where we live.

Amy (my wife, Mrs Robinson) has been all over the Internet researching this. Some sites say the city and state on the boat can be anywhere, it does not need to be the hailing port on the coast guard documentation. Other sites say it must be the hailing port.

Anyone in the group know anything about this?
