Hi Shel

We got hammered in a storm first day out. Had to lay up in Brockville. Made it into the Rideau Sunday and have been puddling along since then. We're on Big Rideau Lake at a friends cottage right now. Things are going pretty well. Boat is burning a lot more fuel then usual so we're goint into Bayview
yacht harbour tomorrow to get it checked out.

Don't know anyone from Ed Huck's. Been there a few times. Their used boat sales staff seem nice enough. I think every second boat we've seen has had a For Sale sign on it! *lol*

Will post pics when I can.

Rick

Hey, Rick! Glad things are going good. The storms have been ridiculous the last few days around here. Hope they stay away from here on out.

That gas thing is just an illusion. With the gas prices, you are burning more money, not gas... :-D

If your in need of anything, let me know. Though I will not be bringing you jerry cans of gas, so you can save a few cents.

Not sure I will see you on the water, as I am still sort of boatless. :-(

Stay safe, and keep enjoying your vacation.

Shel

Are you still looking at that 290? We leave on our trip the 6th and should be passing your way the 8th or 9th.

I think I know the surveyor who did the stability calcs on this Houseboat! (PS. I guess it doesn't matter what you go in as long as you go eh?)

We were serenaded by this Singing Cowboy through a half dozen locks. I had to pay him "NOT" to play/sing any more Neil Young songs!

More to follow.....

Thnx for the gas offer Shel! We've got lots but definitely burning more than usual. Heading into Bayview Yacht Harbour this morning to get it checked out! Stay tuned!.... ;-)

Rick, that sunset pic looks like the entrance to Morton Bay, yes? We love anchoring there.

I know the guy very well with that houseboat. I have even been onboard. Say hi to him for me if you talk to him. I find myself praying for his safety often.

Ray, that specific Tiara 290 I was interested in is off my list. It was a neglected boat. There are other things I am looking at now. Though there are a couple of Slickcraft 310s that still may be an option.

I'll keep an eye out for you Ray if I am on or near the water, but at this time it doesn't look like I will be anytime soon.

Update. Squirt jumped ship last night and is now a resident of Macnamee's point on Big Rideau Lake. We searched till long after dark and half the day and couldn't find the lil' ****! What's the disciplinary action for abandoning his post?

Your kidding right? You didn't lose your cat?

Yup he's gone! Our friends are looking out for him. I guess we'll make up some "Missing" posters when we get home and distribute them around. The lil' bugger is probably having the time of his life and I'm gonna kill him when he gets home! Shadow is beside herself, she knows he's missing. Lori's staying awful quiet and not saying much.

Operation "Find Squirt" begins tomorrow. We're heading back to look for him. We've printed up "Missing" posters to put up around the point and the local stores etc. that'll let us do it. So far no word if he's returned to the cottage. We had to leave our friends place because of their annual family reunion and can go back tomorrow when the dock is free.

Did squirt have a collar with a name or number that could trace back to you???

No. He wriggled out of his harnass. Day 5 and he's gotta be getting hungry. We'll go out again at dusk to try to find him. Neighbors have heard a cat in the woods so maybe it was him. Couple more days and he'll be a permanent resident of Big Rideau Lake township. We've printed and posted "missing" posters for 10 miles around. Not much more we can do.

When my sister moved from Va. to La., her cat ran away from home the morning she and her family were supposed to
head out. The trailers and trucks were already loaded up. She and her husband waited for a couple hours, their daughter could not leave without her cat. But they ended up getting her a dog when they got here. The cat never left the yard until that morning...
Tough to leave them, but sometimes it has to be done.

Rick,

I really hope you find Squirt. My heart breaks for him and you guys. I can't imagine how we would feel if we lost a pet on vacation. Devastating!

Shel

Thnx Shel

In Kingston, Portsmouth Yacht Harbour, bummed a hot shower at the Coast Guard station. Gassed up for the run down river to home tomorrow, should be there by noon. We'll go back by car to look for him. The whole area has been plastered with flyers and everyone knows "Squirt" now! It's funny, we mention we're looking for our cat in the locks today and two people knew who it was we were looking for. *lol* If he's still alive we'll find him!

Stay tuned..... the saga continues

We saw some weird and some wonderful boats on the trip! Here's a lil' sample.

more later.....

We got a call today from someone who spotted a big orange cat in their neighborhood. If it was Squirt he's travelled about 8 miles in 8 days and is heading east (towards home). We scoured the area but couldn't locate him today so we'll go back with more flyers and lean towards the east some more. Stay tuned.....

Squirts Alive!

We got another call from a camper near where he jumped ship. Headed right up there to check it out. About 20 minutes of calling for him I spotted him in the woods. He wouldn't come to me so Lori went in with some food. Sure enough she managed to grab him but in the hand off he bolted and we've got the bite marks and scars to prove it! The lil' bugger took off. We weren't really prepared for what he'd do and on top of all that it was pouring rain at just the wrong time. We tried to find him again but he was the proverbial "scalded cat" and took off. Not having a plan we took a few minutes to figure out what to do. He's reverted to his feral instincts and we probably wouldn't get another chance to grab him so we bought a trap (friendly kind) and baited it. We watched it for a few hours and he hadn't shown up. It's still there and we'll check it again in the morning.

At least we know where he is and he's alive. Just a matter of time before his gut gets the better of him!! Stay tuned.....

That is odd that he didn't come to you. 8 days is not a lot of time to turn on the family.
Hope all turns out well.
