Looking into replacing my canvas with a hardtop. Has anyone else here done this?

Recommendations?

Oh boy - here comes WalterV with his Atlantic Tower story!
He did it on his old Silverton, ask him.

You can replace just your canvas with a hardtop. It attaches to your frame. I installed one on my boat and I really like it.
here is the link to their web site.

Mike, my boat had an all canvas enclosure on the flybridge when I bought it and eventually had a hardtop built. These guys did the work - https://seamlessmarine.com/ They did a beautiful job and very happy I did it. Definitely an expensive upgrade though.

When I looked at hard tops they were about $100 per sq ft with welded SS frames and honeycomb Fiberglass top

Thanks guys, so far I have gotten estimates from Atlantic and Seamless (2 -3 times as much). I looked at that "hard to top" and it's not the look I want.

Dave, maybe you can get Walter to chime in.

Thanks!

Hi Mike,
Yes I did use Atlantic Towers.

I had problems with them, first top did not fit, second top did not have the options I asked for (lights and Stainless track to hold the glass). They told me to pound wood on the options I paid for (long story).
Next problem was the installers, weekend warriors that traveled to my marina, very little experience, they needed my guidance every step of the install. I recommend you use your own people. Installation is not their cup of tea.

On a good note!!
The quality of the top and the powder coated supports were absolutely a 10. At the time, they were the least expensive solution.
I did not have them do a fiberglass finish (like the top of the hardtop) on the underneath, I was afraid of the additional weight.
Here are some pictures.

I had them put the sunroof in so I could get access to the top to service the equipment up there. That was the only purpose of that.

Hogan, Freedom had a hard top on it, and one thing that p.o.'d me was that the bottom was a rough glass kind of finish. It was painted over and looked fine. However, mold and mildew set up in it and it was a bear to clean unless it was sprayed with bleach. That requires pulling down the gels because the bleach will ruin them. I think I would go for a smooth finish. Perhaps a white lexan or other durable translucent product.

Dan,
Mine was smooth and finished. Never had a mildew problem. If I opted for the inside to be glassed the only change would you would not see the support ribs. As mentioned, I did not opt for this as I was afraid the additional weight would make the boat top heavy.
