Haverstraw must be watching this Forum

From their site as well that I laughed.

1. Deep water so you can come and go when you want to, not just at high tide!

- Definitely reading this site

3. Discounts on fuel at the fully staffed fuel dock that's easy to get to and easy to dock at with pump-outs that are fast and always working!

Hmm - Pumps-outs always working??????

They also forgot to mention that it can be a LLLLLOOOOOOONNNNNNGGGGG hike to your boat, and that the docks get so hot in the summer that they can burn your (and your pets) feet.

If I had a boat in that size range I'd be looking very closely at Haverstraw. All other things aside I boat so I can go out on the water not sit at the dock. Haverstraw makes that easier. Alas they seem to feel that people with bigger boats are made of money so it looks like I'm staying put.

I will say they made an excellent step in the right direction, extend it to the larger boats and it would be a perfect step!

Hey Pete, Is Woody still working at the marina? We stayed there on our way up from Florida and he was a big help getting us fuel and a slip for the night. And there was this really pretty girl running hte grill that charmed my son. A great marina but there is nothing to walk to...

Paul; I have'nt met Woody and I think I know everyone at this point so I'm guessing he's no longer there.

Denise runs the grill and you're right she is a charmer. If you ever stop again let me know and we will make sure that transportation is available to you.

I'm sure people with larger boats over there are not very happy right now, I wouldn't be if the smaller boats are getting discounts and I still had to pay the same because I have a larger boat.

I wish they would extend the length out to 35' LOA. Where is there kid's playground?

MJK

If their pricing levels are still the same, there was a huge per foot jump once you went above 32'. It jumped $6.00 a foot. We have a 31' Silverton that mesured 32' LOA. Several years back they billed us for a 33' which added some $200 a year on our summer rental. We made them mesure us again with the dock cover off and the windshield open so they could ge t a "straight" measurement. It was a fight but they finally gave in.

As far as larger boats go, I have to believe that their corporate thinking is that due to water depths at other area marinas, there is no reason to offer a discount.

There's a kids playground on the north side.

I need to add that I am making the assumption that they did not offer a discount to boats over 32', when in fact they may already have.

IMHO, any marina that would actually come out with a tape measure to measure your boat is run by a bunch of scumbags!

At 75 a foot they would have my attention.
I heard they are going to measure boats at my marina this year. I not happy but I pay for my loa now so it won't affect me unless I add a swim platform it's making me think twice.

I agree with Mike, to come out and measure your boat with a tape measure is crazy and they are just looking to rip people off even more. It's not the time to be doing this with the economy the way it is, they'll just push more people away from boating which will effect their buisness in the long run. I'd rather keep customers happy, than piss them off, which may lead them to look elswhere.

It is in the corner of the parking lot on the North side away from everything. You wouldn't know it's there unless you really looked for it.

Prepare to be measured this year Todd. Heard it right from the "horse's mouth" and I quote, "every boat in the yard or in a slip will pay for the full LOA including trailer tongue length if on a trailer. We have already started measuring.".

Seems they plan on grabbing every single penny they can from the loyal existing customers instead of working to attract new business.

I'm new to the area and have a 31' Grady White. I'm looking into Haverstraw Marina and the smaller Marina's around it. I'm not sure what the prices were before, but for $76 a foot this seems to be the best bang for my buck. They have a pool that's great for the kids and significantly less money to join than my town pool. Also I keep reading that some of the other marina's don't have enough water at low tide... Is this true?? I can't imagine not being able to use my boat on my terms. What are the pro's and con's of the marina's in this area?

When Gene was at SPBM he looked at the boat registration for the length to get your slip fee. That's what he did with me. If someone moved up to a larger boat without telling the marina I can see raising his fee but not if it's the same boat that's been there for years.

Joe;

You have a pretty clear understanding. I kept my boat at Haverstraw for 12 years, and would still be there if we had'nt moved.

The big plus is you have water and plenty of it, you never have to be concerned about coming or going on tides. Also you have great storm protection, The amenities of the pool restaraunt, tiki bar, fuel and pump outs make it a great place to be.

The downside to Haverstraw, is that they are owned by a corporation so there is not an owners face you can put to the marina. They run it like a business, where this is a set charge for everything. As long as you understand the charges there should be no disputes. As will certainly be posted, the docks are long and they are metal so in the summer sun they do get HOT!!!!. We have two dogs, and they had to wear boots to go back and forth to land during daylight hours.

There are alternatives in the area, but with the exception of Pennybridge, (which is usually filled), most others have a problem with lack of water.

Understand that everyone here has their favorites and you will hear about all of them. Post your questions and concerns and you will get fair and balanced answers.

Good luck.

I can see Haverstraw measuring boats because they have what no other marina has in the area WATER.

I don't see how having water makes it OK to nickle and dime you to death. And Haverstraw is not the only Marina that uses a ruler to decide your LOA.I don't agree with it but I can understand why they do it. I can comment about Haverstraw from experience from when they STOLE $1700.00 from me. This was because I was a great customer and paid my slip in full before December, problem was I made a mistake and bought a new bigger boat before the start of the season and they had no slip for me. No refund and no slip. So I ended up in another marina with 2 slips paid in full for the year.

I think Pete said it well about Haverstraw. It has its positives but you pay for it and it has its negatives. For me, never again!

Butch I never knew that. Let's get a few "boys" together and go pay them a visit.

Butch I can't believe that happened, really bad buisness on their part, it's amazing what people will do for a buck.

I was a victime of Haverstraw's policy many years ago. I never measured my own boat, and when got a slip there, I told them the length was what the brochure said.

Well at the end of the season, I got a letter from them telling me that they had measured my boat and that it was 6" longer than what I had told them, they went on to say that I owed them more money.

I ripped up the letter, left Haverstraw at the end of the season, and only go back to donate the contents of my holding tank to them!
