Hawaii lava flow

posted this in NBR, but since it was a boat trip, should be OK here

spent NY week in Hawaii. Did a boat tour to the lava flow on the Big Island. Boat was ~45 ft all aluminum, all welded. 4x250hp outboard powered.
Held 50 people. Captain did great job getting right next to the flow.

Amazing...any info on water depth at entry point?...building up like a beach? etc, etc.
 
pretty steep entry point, but it is adding to the island size very slowly. That said, a 22 acre size area was lost a couple years ago, due to one of the lava tubes eroding the area. It was an area where the National Park had setup a viewing area. Totally gone now

Bunch of homes were lost years ago. There are homes within a few miles of the flow today
