Just floated the boat this week, spent the winter on the hard. My toilet won't fill with raw water. The seacock is open. I feel as if the plunger is sealed and works... as evidenced by the ability to empty the bowl if I fill it with water.

I'm ready to take the apparatus apart, but thought I'd generate some responses here to point me in the right direction.

Help! I have a wife and three girls, the toilet needs to work!
 
Danny, the temperature here in Jersey for the past several days has been fluctuating between 20 and 60 degrees; every time I look at my crystal ball, it's all fogged up! [:-bigeyes] [8)] [:-bigeyes] I tried Rain-X, but it doesn't seem to help.
 
Good idea, I'll try the Admiral's hair dryer on the crystal ball - that should work.

By the way, how's your Admiral doing?
 
She finished the whole brain radiation Monday and she's whipped or whopped..either way no energy. She slept almost round the clock over the weekend. I sent her to her parents for the weekend as I was at the hospital with My father who had a stroke...when it rains it pours on me....

Oncologist cut her drug back becuase of the side effects...I just don't have a good feeling about it anymore Vic.
 
Danny, sounds like you're about ready to start hitting some of that GOOD Kentucky bourbon. My prayers are with you. Try not to let it get you down, and keep treading water!
 
Vic, already started, did that last weekend while she and the dog were at her parents and I had a little time alone at home....thanks for the reminder, time to get another bottle
 
To Brass Monkey - With the assumption you are raw water flush, disconnect the hose from the thru hull and see if water is getting in... I had a check valve (why?) in the line that stuck shut over the winter while on hard... after over $100 and a couple of busted knuckles, I found the problem. Tapped it with a mallet a couple of times and water flowed nicely!

If you have a fresh water flush, take the hose loose at the head inlet and check same thing.

I have an admiral and three girls, too! I know your pain!

To expand on what Jim said, when you disconnect the hose from the thru-hull, you can try sticking it in a bucket of water to see if you can draw from there.
 
Danny, it can help every now and then, just don't let it take over... Hang in there!
 
Short story, when I went to check the make/model I pumped it a million times and it worked. Must've needed a bit of priming.

If you've ever grounded the boat by the stern (letting the tide go out while anchored) and decide to flush the head anyway while waiting fot the tow boat, you can plug the hose or valve with sand or mud and you'll have to disconnect it and flush it with a garden hose.

Don't ask me how I know! [:-banghead]

My thoughts are with you. Try to live each day as best you can, one at a time. I'm dealing with the same issues myself, diagnosed almost four years ago with colon/liver at stage 4. My doc gave me 6 months. As I said that was almost 4 years ago. Family, friends and trying to live as you did before go a long way. My prayers are with you both.
