Headed To Bahamas

Looking at Passageweather.com and other sites it looks like July is going to start out a bit dicey as well. But my friend, who works for NOAA says that August should settle down to normal patterns unless we get some storm activity. Plus, my Bahamas Cruise Permit will still be good. :)

So, we'll see. My projected departure date is August 1st. Actually I'd like to go right now but the wind looks to be pretty unsettled for the next several days.

Bob, Your picture of Great Isaac Light is the best. I have it as screen savers on PC,s at work and my Laptop.
Cant wait to visit the area next time I cross.
Hope to go in September.
 
Be sure to go onto the island and explore around. it is really fascinating. Just be careful because it would be really easy to break an ankle.

If you are a SCUBA diver, right along the shore line, maybe 50'-100' off, the diving is pretty neat.

Near by there's another area called the Gingerbread Grounds (on the charts) where the diving and fishing is really good.

Well, I suppose you could but, personally, I don't think it's a good ldea. The shoreline, all the way around, is very rocky and I just don't want to anchor that close to it. There's plenty of depth on the west side but I like to drop the hook 100-200 ft off of it. Plus, if you have any sort of accident or injury or emergency having that dink would be a lot easier to get back to the boat than swimming. Mind you, I cruise alone about 90% of the time so I have to think about stuff like that. :)

Personally, I view having a dink, anywhere in the Bahamas, as a necessity for a lot of reasons; exploring, safety, etc. But, mostly, there's just so many little neat places I want to get to explore that I wouldn't even think about going without a dink.
