Well we are making our first trip up the east river to long island sound this weekend. We will be leaving Sandy Hook around 2:30; and headed for Norwalk cove.

We have no real plans of what were are doing when we arrive other then dinner reservations at Match and Barcelona.

Any advice from the locals would be great. We are headed back to NJ on monday if the weather holds earlier if the forecast changes.

Northern,

If you have kids (or even if you don't), they have a pretty decent Aquarium and the town has alot of little shops and places to eat.

Mind the channel markers.

Have a great weekend.

"SoNo" (South Norwalk) is the name of the area in Norwalk with the restaurants, bars, night club and even a coffee house with great cookies. There's plenty of nightlife there.

I forget the name of the Spanish restaurant we went to but the food is excellent and the sangria goes down way too fast...yum, yum!

The annual Oyster Festival is there this weekend. No shortage of activities for all, just very crowded. Great shops in "SoNo," and very good restaurants. There's a wonderful Thai restaurant near the aquarium, and a steak place called Porterhouse on the left, right as you enter town from the marinas. We spent last weekend in Red Bank, and it's about the same distance for you to Norwalk. rb2@gr5t3 hrs.
Have fun!

thanks everyone for the feedback, we are headed to the boat now! This will be our first trip up the sound and we ate looking forward to the weekend!

If you want to get real-time weather information (winds speed, gusts, direction, water temp, etc) check out mysound dot com it is run out of the Univ of Conn and has several bouys in LI sound that transmit info back continuously. I don't know about the East River but the Sound can kick up some nasty winds.

we are staying at Norwalk cove. Really nice staff and marina so far.

If you go to the oysterfest we are at the Town Dock - stop by-look for the BoaterEd flag!

Does the town dock have power and water? Also, can you reserve or is it first come?

I've only been there for an afternoon stay.

Mark, This is the first year with Power, they have water as well-I don't think you can reserve a spot- but you can hang on one of their moorings until one becomes free - I can't remember not being able to get a spot - but we make sure we get there early for special events

Yes they're still alive!
