Update - Looks like I rescued the block by oiling the crap outta evertying (marvels) I could get close too. Thanks Eric for the help and phone calls. Nice to hear a "been there" understanding voice. The guys I got are unbelievable and once complete, I'm giving a shameless plug.....I started with swap out my engine and they would have nothing to do with that. They said to go with doing this job and worse case, they were wrong and would pick up the labor if they had to replace the block.....
Had BOTH engines done in one day. New manafolds, risers, elbows etc. Today is fire up. They'll check the bad engine for compression only after they burn off the marvels oil. Pray for a good block but things are lookin' good.
Okay, Installed new distributors on the hard. Both engines fired perfect. Took it to the travel lift, dropped it in, fired up both engines...fired and ran great. No water coming out of the starboard side...duh...seacock....only ran for about 20 second or so, shut it down and opened the seacock. Ran for about 5 seconds, reved it once and sputter sputter bang CLACK CLACK CLACK .....STALL...
Tried to restart about a bazillion times. Took a chance on timing or something and got it to my slip on the port side....mind you, new distributor set up exact same way.....
Anycase, pulled number 8 plug and looked "moist" and contact was completley gone. Put in a new one, reset the distributor (for fun) and tried again...nothing....
sputter CLACK CLACK CLACK and now starting to see oil in the water behind the boat.
Pulled distributor out thinking it was bad...covered in white milky oil. Did a compression test on the cooling system...couldn'te even get to 15 lbs. Pulled number 8 again and a torrent of coolant and water (couldn't tell if any salt) came out.....
Funny thing....I know when I put her away the oil was clean. Even now, when I pull the dipstick, I'm not seeing the milky whiteness..maybe cuz it didn't run enough to get the oil below yet.
I'm told that possibly the gasket separating the riser from the manifold may have went and I sucked in water but I just don't understand how the coolant would have gotten in there other than working it's way out then back in but why then didin't it happen initially? If the gasket was always bad, wouldn't the coolant have gotten sucked through when it was started on the hard or before I opened the seacock?
Like I said, it was purring till I opened the seacock then all hell broke loose. I left the plug out and sprayed some fogging oil the best I could inside the cylinder wall but...who knows..
Pulled the elbow off but can't get the damn riser to budge...it's figting me all the way...
Now I'm wondering if any further troubleshooting is necessary or if my block has had it.
Guys, I'm broke.....what's my option?
