HELP WITH 3.0 MERC PLEASE!!!

I have a '69 merc 3.0 engine that will not stay running. I have traced it down to being a problem somewhere between the key switch and positive terminal on the coil. If I hook a wire between the coil and batter and turn the key it will start and stay running but as soon as I take the wire off it dies. I tested the key switch and it is good. There are two white resistors that are piggy backed between this connection, could that have something to do with it? Im lost right now and dont know where to go with this.. Please help, any info is greatly apreciated. Also, can anyone tell me where I can find an online wiring schematic for this engine?? Thanks
