I have a 97 454 Merc. MAG MPI. The power steering pump is from the orginal 1994 motor. Ever since I had the motor swap the power steering pump is loosing fluid. Everytime I take the boat out I have to refill a the pump about a 1/4 of the way. I use the boat almost every weekend and add fluid. The thing is.. where is all the fluid going?? The bilge has a little residue but not as much as I have been loosing.
Can someone help me with how the power steering system works? I have looked in the service manual but that doesn't really help. There are no leaks at the pump or the actuator by the transom so where else might it leak fluid??
