Replacing what I believe is an OEM quicksilver 15x17 on a 96 Maxum 2400SCR (merc 5.7 with Alpha 1) and am running into an interesting problem... (For various reasons, I am sticking with aluminum prop vice SS.)
15x17 quicksilver prop came with boat and was fairly worn. Purchased a michigan 15x17 and used it for 2 years. Kept the old as a spare. WOT for old and michigan is 4400. Michigan is in good shape. Old one is too corroded for repair so I purchased a new quicksilver 15x17 and can only get 4000. Michigan prop still gets 4400...
Not sure why the new quicksilver RPMs drop 400 unless they changed the design of the prop. Should I reduce to quicksilver 15x15 or go with another michigan???
Also, since i'm working to get the right prop, will an aluminum 4 blade improve fuel economy?? The vendor I am working with is allowing me to switch props to find the correct size but they don't claim to be prop experts.
..thanks...z
