Am replacing the holding tank in my boat. The vent line fitting installed in the side of the tank near the top looks like a cross between a 5/8" brass hose barb fitting and a engine block rubber freeze plug. When you tighten up the threaded collet around the hose barb, the rubber plug swells up. Any idea where to by this from ?

are you sure it is not just a comon through hull with added gaskets?

Its definitely an expanding plug when you tighten the threaded collet.

Almost sounds home made with parts from homedepotlowes. Perhaps, the actual tank fitting broke, could not be accessed after the boat was assembled or dare I say forgotten on assembly. Perhaps a combination of the three.

Does it look anything like these with a tapered washer in the middle.

Nope. I'm caught in a do loop between Wellcraft and sealand. The connection shows on the sealand build sheet in the non standard sealand location, and shows as the part being supplied by Wellcraft. Wellcraft said sealand propvided the part in the installation kit Sealand provided. sealand says Wellcraft provided it.

Anyone know of another way to get a 5/8" vent line out of a ploy tank ?

If the vent hole in the tank is threaded, you should be able to find a nylon threaded barb at Ace Hardware. They have a lot of nylon hose fittings. They might even have that compression-type barb fitting you're looking for.

If you get problems with vent hose sizes: Back when I had a tank on the boat I ran into a problem fitting a vent filter to the waste tank vent hose. One was 5/8 hose and the other was 3/4. I used a nylon 5/8 - 3/4 hose reducer. It's just a double-ended barb that fits between two hoses of different sizes.

Now I'm confused. Not an unnatural state of mind for me...or maybe I'm just missing something. Is the tank coming out or going in. If it's coming out, cut the hose and cap it. If it's going in, as long as the connection serves its purpose to vent the tank, it should not matter what the fitting is as long as it functions. The tank is not pressurized so proper sealing to preclude any leakage and you should be good to go.

Sealand solved my problem for me. They have a vent relocation kit that they sold me. Doesn't have the part that I am looking for, but instead it's a thru hull looking thinh that will solve the problem.

I thank everyone for thier help.
