I see you guys canceling Labor Day reservations. Same is happening down here on the NE FL coast. St. Augustine, for example, is hoping to salvage some of the weekend even if they lose Saturday. Around here, Jacksonville, we expect Hermine to leave the area tomorrow, so we'll see what the weekend brings. We're expecting a couple feet of higher tide, but the Gulf coast hasn't ruled out an eight foot surge. Tha's a lot for the low land over there! Our elevation in Tampa was seven feet!

Sad, this heading your way. Y'all deserve a good weekend, and beyond that, safety for your homes, businesses, boats, FAMILIES and SELVES. Please let us know how you're doing.
 
Yeah we think Friday is the only good day.
Maybe saturday.

I wouldn't of cancelled if we didn't have a 13 mile ocean run.
They are calling for 16' waves out of the south with a north wind.
That means large breakers!
 
It's breezy here in SWFL now. Good "blow in" tide on the Caloosahatchee River. Just past high tide now and perhaps this is the worst of it for us given the storm is North of us now. We'll see. Like I said, keep an eye on TD9 now known as Hermine.
 
Was going to go around to the north shore for the Huntington Lighthouse festival on Saturday but don't want to run around Manhattan with the predictions that are being generated and certainly would not run back. Pending on the storm track I might just stay home altogether and get ready to man the generator.

Cost businesses on fire island lost revenue.

I agree on the lost revenue for F.I. we were heading there but scrubbed due to forced closing of F.I. I hope next weekend will make up for it!
 
I cant imagine the cost to business for this blown forecast. NJ especially.... they had it being washed away...

In lots of ways I'm glad the dismal forecast did not come true. But I understand how everybody who wanted enjoyment and/or revenue from a big holiday weekend would feel. Something like this happens and it's hard to remember the place is still standing for next weekend.

Still, how many professionals can be wrong as many times as meteorologists and even keep their jobs, let alone move to "major markets?"
 
Weather people I watched stressed how unpredictable these things can be when it comes to exact tracks. Some of the reporters hyped it a bit for the sake of a story.
Glad this one didn't hit us. It's a shame that plans got cancelled and businesses suffered, but better than the damage that may have been caused he the storm impacted us more.
 
I am with JVM on this one. Some plans were cancelled or cut short but far better than what we have dealt with before in Long Beach.

sadly, we pushed the panic button based on the surge forecast and had the boat hauled Saturday morning. Not only killed our Labor Day plans but also the next few weeks as she is now out for the season. Can't believe the forecast was so far off the mark. Not even a drop of rain! Very annoying and frustrating. The boating season is short enough without the weather jackwagons screwing us up.
 
I believe our marina (Haverstraw) made out well. I was told 40 boats came up from jersey shore area to hide from storm. I hope the folks who did at least enjoyed a great weekend on the river.
 
Boats out in in Riverhead... WIND HOWLING out there. Buddy John is in Montauk and getting blown pretty good.

And its raining their but not here in queens !

One of my red Solo cups actually got blown over by the wind, and some napkins blew off our cockpit table.

I don't know if I can take much more of this.
 
LOL Mike, that was funny, those cups are not cheap! Mike, did you go to Channel Club? In hindsight, we would have been fine, but the decision to bail, was appropriate based on the end of the world forecast :) Ohh well, there is always next year.

Those cups are meant to be kept FULL and the napkin is your coaster....I'm a bit disappointed in you.

I actually had a great weekend, took the little boat across river Saturday AND Sunday!
 
As Rob said I have my boat out at Montauk and while Saturday turned out pretty calm and we had a nice day of fishing on the ocean side (although it was getting rough by time we went in), by Sunday the wind was blowing hard and waves built up quite a bit and no one left the dock. I headed home (by car) and then with a worsening forecast drove back out Monday night. The further east I drove the stronger the wind was, and when I got out of the car at Montauk I was surprised just how bad it was out there. According to the forecast maps wind was blowing about 60. Boats were rolling around in the marina and I was readjusting and adding lines for a while. All worked out okay but it was pretty bad out there.

As far as the channel club trip, waves off Fire Island were 10-11' Sunday-Monday with 30+ knot winds, I don't think you would have enjoyed the return trip!
