Hey alk, here's the perfect project vessel

I need to go dig through my sofa cushions and see if I have a spare $1.4mil kicking around...that thing is cool! Think I can trailer it with my 4Runner?

Sure, don't forget you'll need funds to restore to military specs. btw-- check with alk. He enjoys small simple projects like this.😂

Clock started five months ago to put a new intake and distributor on a 454, and not quite done with that yet. so probably safe guess that the triple packard v12’s would be out of my league.

focus alk, focus!😁

Actually it is not triple Packards but John Deere diesels (The ad mispells Deere), which surprised me as I thought they were all 115 octane gassers. Maybe a repower?

Yeah, it’s got the three Deere’s in there now ( two v-drives, one straight if the listing is accurate). But came original with the three packard v-12’s ( again, if the listing is accurate). So that’s what the restoration would call for. Ouch. Can you imagine trying to find those motors, and parts for them? And youtubes demonstrating how to repair them?

John Deere?

Oh man...I'm sure there's some old tractor mechanic here in NH that can be persuaded to come wrench on it for me...

This is getting tempting! :ROFLMAO:

PT-617 has been restored and is waiting for you. When we were there they let us just about exhale near it.

Actually the Packards are not that hard to get parts for if you are willing to deal with the Warbird community. Lots of P-40Fs and P-51B's out there with Packard engines. Also a lot of the parts interchange with RR Merlins. I know of two guys off the top of my head that will O/H for you. 6 figures to be sure, but they will do it and do it really good as a lot of these engines have to hold together for air races.

We were stationed at Hurlburt Field, between 1958 -1963, there were 2 PT boats that would cruise the intercostal. I never knew where thay came from or where they were headed. I don't remember seeing USN markings but that was a very long time ago. I just remember we could hear them along ways off and us kids loved the nice wake they put out.

PT-305, the only Higgins built WWII combat veteran that is restored to full running and navigation condition is powered by 3 x Packard 1A-2500 V-12s. The 305 boat is now housed inside of a display building at the National World War II Museum in New Orleans

We had one here on Clear Lake (off Galveston Bay) quite a few years ago that was undergoing restoration work. Unfortunately, I don't recall the number or what happened to it. It was very cool to see it cruising the area.
