I'm looking for some tips to make 2 outdrive stands for my boat. I was thinking about making them out of (wood) 2" x 2" and then the top where the drives would rest would be made out of 2" x 4".

Thanks!

I made mine out of 2x4's and plywood. They have served me well four the last three boats I've owned.

I've seen steel ones on wheels for $80. Your better off buying them.

I had the U-PODs.
For $50 they worked great.
Just can't wheel them around.

I use a Black and Decker workmate. Drives fit in them perfect did the impellers while sitting on them. I also have Alpha drives not sure if it works with bigger drives.

Did it hold two Alpha Drives?

Where did you see them? I'd like to check them out.

No the work mate only held one drive it is the model that you attach to a work bench. Put it on the bench with a towel to cushion it and tightened it up a little and worked great. I have seen them on sale for 29 bucks or so

Thanks for the info, but I ordered two of the metal ones. They'll make moving them around during the winter storage period a lot easier.

I wound up making a pair of them out of 2x4's. I haven't pulled the drives yet.

Those pre-made stands are nice. I pulled my bravo drive for the first time. Since I am by myself, I knew I could not handle the drive alone. I made a wooden attachment to fasten to an engine stand (which I have). This allowed me me pull/slide the drive off onto the stand. Since it was custom made and at the right height, I will be able to slide the drive back in. Cost was about $20 plus a couple of hours of cutting/screwing the wood pieces together.
