I recently purchased a 2006 3880 and noticed that the house battery does not hold its charge very long so the generator needs to be run frequently. All that is left on is the fresh water, the head, and the refrigerator After about 4 hrs, there does not appear to be enough power for the fresh water pump to work. Has anyone else had this problem? Once the generator is turned on, and the battery charger is activated, there is no issue. On any previous boat that I owned there was never a problem with the fresh water pump having enough battery power to function.

it sounds like your battery is finished. easy to check. put a load tester on it and see.

I just had the exact same issue with my Carver. Got all new batteries this week and will be installing them this evening.

When was the last time you added distilled water to battery?

Do you or your crew leave lots of lights on? The halogens really suck down a battery.

We do not leave any lights on. I will do a load test this weekend. Does anyone have 2 house batteries?

We have 1 8D to which we have added 2 golf cart batteries. Gives us a total capacity of around 450AMP hours. We run an inverter so things like watching TV do not require the generator to be running.

Also, when the 8D dies we expect to replace it with 4 more golf cart batteries. Should give us close to 700AMP hours.
