How bad were your barnacles this past season

My outdrive is really covered with barnacles, I used the Trilux stuff (as usual) last spring but it's performance this year was lousy. I assume it is partly a result of the dry spring that we had. The multi season stuff on the hull had no problems. I was slipped in the Bohemia for 6 months (as in past years). Not sure if I am going to use the Trilux again or try Pettit's new Alumispray+.

I had them all over my ss props, had to pull the boat to scrape them would not go over 10 mph.

Same here. There weren't too many on the underside of the boat, but the outdrive and SS props were really bad. a few years ago my husband found some kind of clear bottom type of spray paint and sprayed the outdrive with it. We didn't have barnacles on it that year. He looked for the paint in the spring, but couldn't find it anywhere. If any one knows of a clear paint for props and outdrives, please post info. We're in Middle River and the barnacles have never been as bad as they were last summer.

Ditto with my inboards. The hull was clean, but the props and running gear were coated. Couldn't get up on plane and had to dive under to scrape about the August timeframe. At haul out, they weren't bad only a few new ones. I can't remember where, but I read something about a 'microburst of organisms that did it. They also said it had passed on by and we shouldn't expect a repeat any time soon. I sure hope that is true.

Faily normal for me. Where the paint flaked off I had a 3inch x 3 inch farm here and there. Other than that, just some growth on the underside of the trim tabs.

I recall speaking with the marina operators in Middle River this past season, and as RFH eluded, the dry and mild winter coupled with a 'microburst of organisms' attributed to the severe barnacle growth on the Chesapeake Bay this past season.

Our bottom remained clean, but our underwater gear - prop, strut and shaft, became fouled with these nasty cling-ons. By July / August, I was diving on the bottom regularly with a scraper.

When we hauled in early December, powerwashed the algae off the bottom and we're ready for a light sanding and painting come April. A few boats stored next to us, didn't powerwash, and as a result are coated with barnacles and dried algae. It'll make for a mess come spring!

Looking forward to what surprises next season holds for us!
