That was some intense weather and still some wind to deal with the next couple days..

Hope everybody made it thru without any damage.

That was the first time we had to set an anchor while in a slip!

Cheers.

I'm up in South Portland, ME (till the boat goes to it's new home in Warwick, RI May 4th) and the marina insisted on hauling my boat out on Saturday afternoon. After reading Riverbed's posts, I'm sure glad I took their advice. But others did not. I'll get a chance to see the result on Thu evening.

We went to our Marina in Westerly on Sunday AM to check on things. Our winter cover was halfway blown off so we decided to totally remove it for the next 24 hrs of crud weather. Full camper canvas was clean and dry underneath. We are protected very nicely between some bigger boats and the main building. All the docks are ready to be populated though, Just a few weeks away

Shrink wrap coming off Saturday - that is if I can get to my boat. Herd the flooding is really bad - up to the main building - worst since '82. The river should peak today. I'm sure my dock box is floating away.

The Manager at our marina in Essex sent out a mass email to all memebers that it was the worst flooking since Hurricane Gloria...I guess that was '82 as Spike said...he included pictures that showed the entire parking lot underwater...good news was he said "no damage to any boat". Ours went in last week, I did not have a cockpit cover and went down last Saturday to install a new one because I did not want the camper canvas exposed to that wind but I have not been back down there yet. The last part of his letter said that the weather had put him behind about 10 days in terms of re-commissioning.

Wow Brian!

Did all the boats stay put and has the water level peaked yet?

Dan.

Looks like it has crested at around 15 ft on Wed-Thu- at least in Middletown. See scale.

How is it where you are?

Had a really bad week here - power out for several days, neighborhood sealed off with the National Guard on duty, 2 houses lost and three more condemmed. Just got internet back and still trying to dig out. Got some interesting pictures that I'll post in the next few days. Glad the boat and dock system wasn't in yet. Fletch - when are you back up again? - I'll buy you a cold one at Joe's Boathouse.

I'd post pictures - however all the same as Deep River shots. Never got to boat - maybe this week sometime as river receeds. Picnic tables preventing access. Even with cinder blocks on top - has anyone seen my dock box - ??

Went down to Deep River today. Parking lot is mostly clear and you can get to most of the docks. Alot of people working there today. Hopefully the worst is over and we an get the season underway now.

Finally finished cleaning up after last week's heavy rain, flooding and high tides. Here's a shot of the neighborhood before the storm...

and here's a shot of a couple of the 5 homes that didn't make it...

and a neighbor's fishing boat that broke loose in the 20-foot swells and ended up trashed 25 feet into the rocks and trees...

Things on the Connecticut River aren't going to get any better. We keep building new shopping centers and housing developments from Middletown to the head of the river in Vermont and every time we do, less water is filtered down through the soil and more passes into Connecticut River basin.

My boat is in Portland, right next to the photos posted above. It didn't float but, it came close.

Next time your planning & Zoning Commission approves another strip mall with a 200,000 sq ft. of parking lot, let them know how much extra water (dirty water at that) they are injecting into what was once once of New England's most beautiful rivers.

I give a well done to Hays Marina in Chester. When the floods came they went out and bought dozens of drain plugs and put them in peoples boats so they wouldn't get water in them. 13 boats floated off their stands at 2am. but they got lines on them and no damage. Some people not to happy at a nearby marina. Marina felt it was better let the boats fill with water so they would stay on their stands. Water in the cabin,in the engines etc.

We lost one that I know of in Deep River. Sea Ray sedan. Engine room filled and flooded both engines and the genny. That will be a total from what I have been told.
