How do they do it?

We have a few marinas in my area where there are permanent house barges that people live in year round. What type of sanitation systems are used on these?

Nope, there is no land bathroom. They're not actually in the usual, typical marina with facilities. They must have some type of sanitation system that is legal.........I'm just curious what it is. They are not hooked up to any sewer system so whatever they have must be allowed.

The ones up the river from here have holding tanks.

Rick, is there a pumpout boat that comes to them?

A truck comes along side every so often. There's only three of them in the old canal so there's no waterborn services like that in this area. There are some pump out barges in the 1000 Islands I think. I'll try to grab a pic of these on Sunday when we go to see the fireworks.

We have several of these "floating homes" around Bethel Island. The county has gotten very strict: either move it onland according to all current codes via a permit or move it out of the county! BTW, since this is a manmade island, all buildings must be on pilings above the flood stage for the island, so moving these to land can be very expensive!

I called Sea Village Marina, in the Atlantic City area - they have a whole bunch of non-powered floating homes that they rent out, etc. The "boats" there are connected to city sewer lines, which was a complete surprise to me.
