The manual for my 1998 Mariner shows the bilge pumps and CO detector are "hard wired" to the selector switch so that these items operate in the automatic mode even when the boat is unattended and the selector switch is in the OFF position.

Does anyone know if when the switch is moved to battery two if the pumps and detector run off battery two. I ask because on another page it shows those items hard wired to battery one.

My boat is store on the hard so I am considering changing the wiring so there is no parasitic drain on the battery in OFF position.

I did not think you could turn off those switches ! I do turn off the volt meters, windless, stereo with the toggles. I also unplug the wires at CO detector. How do you turn off the CO detector and bilge at the battery selector? They are on the upper right. I thought those were just breakers and you couldn't turn them off. My boat is 5 hours away and I hate not being able to just get on board right away and look at this stuff.

Also do you think all that stuff is wired directly to terminal #1 on the selector. My manual shows this on page 36. But I thought it all "moves over" to battery 2 with the switch but i don't understand how that works.

I'm not sure I'd want my boat to be sitting in the water with the automatic pumps disabled. If you're worried about drain...leave the battery charger on...problem solved. If you still want to turn them off, there is a small slot in the lower portion of the breaker switch...insert a small knife in there to turn off the breakers...and, yes, it will turn off the auto switches.

Thanks RamSport, I always wondered if you could use a knife or small flat screw driver to turn them off (I am past my "lets see if this" works days). I agree about leaving them on while in the water but, we are in a unique situation where we are launched and retrieved each time we go out. The boat is stored at the aptly named Off Shore marina. Also unfortunately, no shore power while stored.

Lake Powell is unique in many ways and is worth everyone seeing.

Does anyone know how the bilge pump are wired through the battery switch so they are still on auto even when the battery switch is on OFF? I have two DP batteries not one house and one starting.

I do not think the pumps are hard wired to one of the batteries because I think the pumps "follow the switch" to battery one and two and are still on even in the off position. Again, i am away from boat and cannot check.

I believe the pumps are wired to one of the battery supply posts on the backside of the battery switch. This makes the wire run quite short for them. I have not had one of these switches out, but it makes sense to me as I've seen it done that way on other Carver models of that vintage.

cjeccher,

Sorry it took so long to get back to you. Yes, you guessed right - use a tip of a knife to turn off the switch (have had to do this to kill the power to replace my detectors). This way you don't have to turn off anything else you may want to leave on. When you do this the rocker switch has a red surface so you will immediately notice once opening the panel that the circuit has been switched off.
