Went down to the boat today to see if any damage from wind or water intrusion and luckily no damage and only minor water leak. But my question is all the stuff in the water and the very muddy water. How long do you think it will take to clean up and is it safe to swim in. I was going to have people down for the holiday but with the water a very nice mud color it isn't very appearing to do anything in it. Doesn't look like it will be very nice for the weekend.

Your location at the top of the Bay leads me to believe that you'll be seeing "coffee" coming out of the Susskie for a while. Thoase flats didn't just grow there.

I'm scheduled to run from Port Deposit on the Susquehanna to Baltimore on Thursday. The color of the water doesn't bother me, just any debris. Any reports on that yet?

Chuck -

If you decide to make the trip on Thursday, we'd all appreciate an update on the debris situation. If it's really bad, we might make the holiday weekend a non-boating weekend.

Thanks.

We made our way to Solomons on Monday and were commenting how nice the water was. Instead of the usual Bay brown, it was more of a green. There's a heck of a shoal extending from the north/red marker at the entrance to the Patuxent (where there's usually 50' of water). I wouldn't have been able to see it if the water was like it normally is.

I guess we'll start to see the crud and stuff on our way back north.

Kurt -

I think all the mud, debris, trees, etc. are on their way down the Susky via special delivery this week. I imagine it will get worse and worse each day for a few days before it starts getting better. It'll probably be a huge mess for a while.

Keep the reports coming. Let us know what you find on the way back.

Thanks.

Glenn,

I think you're right. We're going to start heading north tomorrow and this is part of the reason why. We'll probably close out our time off (it was supposed to be a 10-day trip, but Irene screwed up the beginning as well) near the Bay Bridge so we don't have that long of a run dodging trees, logs, cows, gas cans, tires, etc.

Let's hope you don't hit anything, Kurt. Please let us know how it is out there. I'm thinking about Solomons Friday come back Monday. But I don't want to wreck my hull, gear, or props...

Could be a difficult holiday weekend for everyone at the "top of the Bay" because what the Susquehanna dumps in the bay. Reports from others would be helpful.

I will certainly try and remember to do so. You know about the air show this weekend, right? It's starting to get crowded here already. Funny, though, as we're thinking about grabbing a mooring in Spa Creek for the weekend :-)

We will be heading down to Pax River Saturday morning for the airshow. Will anchor somewhere up Patuxent River Saturday and Sunday nights, then head home Monday morning. I expect we will need to keep a sharp lookout for debris on the run back north.

We will be anchored just off the Naval Air Station both Sat and Sun afternoons for the Blue Angels. They are really impressive when you are right under their show-line.

Mike

We are now anchored in Shipping Creek on the south side of Kent Island. No debris spotted between Solomons and here.

Glad the bay is clear of debris...so far. Let us hope it stays that way. Heading tomorrow to Solomons -- should be under Bay Bridge by 5:00 pm. Happy Labor Day to all.

ran today from Kent Narrows to Fairlee, nothing in the water, was all smooth and could not spot anything.

I wonder if there is more still "on the way" from upstream? The Susky starts in NY State. Hopefully it stays fairly clear.

Made it to Solomons this evening. Did not see any debris (Annapolis to Patuxent). Good news.

Drove from Philly yesterday. Unelievable how much junk is in the Delaware River! Thank God it dumps into the Delaware Bay!

The upper bay is looking better at of PM on 9/3/11, although one “got ya” was a just sticking above the water in front of the marina was a railroad tie. Hitting this at any speed was customize your props.
