Here's a summary of an article in the recent "Soundings" magazine: MarineMax of Port Clinton, Ohio was ordered to pay $2.4 mil damages to the buyer for selling a 2001 Sea Ray 510 that they claimed had only cosmetic damage. They said the boat had hit buoy when in fact it had run aground at 20 to 30 mph. The factory did some repairs--$100K worth--but MarineMax did not tell the buyer the extent of the damage to the stringers and engine room bulkhead. Buyer had not had the boat surveyed and trusted the dealer (boat was in water). Upon haulout after the season problems were discovered. MarineMax was found in violation of Ohio Consumer Sales Practices Act and state fraud laws. They are appealing. Another article in the magazine notes that there are 300 storm-damaged (grounded, sunken, broken-up boats) in the Florida Keys from recent hurricanes.

Yr. humble reporter.
