How to clean GPS screen?

My Garmin GPS display is covered with finger prints and smudge.

Do not want to just hit it with Windex.

Any good ideas?
 
West Marine has a display cleaner and a soft cloth that work great.

I would think anything that can be used on a computer monitor would work just as well and probably wouldn't cost as much as west marine.
 
Get some disposable wipes meant for electronic displays and TVs from Wally-Mart. There are probably 100 wipes in the container and it will last you a long time.
 
I'm on my third Garmin Chartplotter. All were easily cleaned with a damp cloth. So far the 741xs, with it's harder screen, has cleaned easily with a dry 3M microfiber cloth.
 
I use serious shine it works on just about everythin
 
Distilled water and a microfiber cloth that you only use for this. Keep the cloth handy in a ziplock bag. Keep the water in a mini finger pump spray bottle.

Or whatever you use to spray it with, use a clean microfiber cloth to wipe it off with.

Where would I buy a microfiber cloth?
 
You can buy them in any electronics dept. of stores. They sell them everywhere.....big box stores, supermarkets, etc.
 
Yeah just don't buy the cheapest ones you see. There is some difference in quality between them.

Mystic Maid makes some very nice ones. They're great for everyday cleaning too. Especially if you don't like to use spray cleaning products on everything because of costs or sensitivities/allergies. They really work as advertised.

Be very cautious about using anything that is meant for cleaning a computer monitor. The anti-glare coating may be damaged using these products as mentioned in an earlier post. I have seen this on more than one screen, including the Raymarine chartplotter in the boat I bought last year.:(
The suggestion to use clean water and a microfiber is a good one. An anti-glare shield installed over a screen that has had some damage to the anti-glare coating from the factory has been known to work very well.

Cleaning the Screen

The lens on the screen is coated with a special anti-reflective coating that
is sensitive to skin oils, waxes, and abrasive cleaners. Cleaners containing
ammonia, abrasives, or anti-grease detergents will harm the anti-
reflective coating. It is important to clean the lens using an eyeglass lens
cleaner(that is specified as safe for anti-reflective coatings) and a clean,
lint free cloth.

WTF?!?!?!?!

I'm having a Lewis Black moment here.

It's a touch screen plotter and the TOUCH screen is and I'm quoting here, "sensitive to skin oils."

Are you sh!tting me? What level of insanity has society come to that a company develops a piece of sophisticated equipment that operates by touching it with your fingers and then describe the inanimate object as if it were almost allergic to the very thing it was designed to operate it.

AAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!

I use a damp soft micro fiber cloth. If you don't have a micro fiber handy, any soft cloth that won't out micro scratches in the surface will work just fine.
