I have a mid 80's carver aft cabin that used the carpet type cover(ugly beige fuzzy stuff) that was used on most of the interior liner. After 20 years it has become dirty and stained in many places.
Can this stuff be cleaned and how? I cant imagine how you would replace it either. Help please.

try spraying a spot with a carpet cleaner solution in a spray bottle, scrub lightly then vacuum dry with a shop vac. Be sure to really dry it out afterward if that treatment works. It does amazingly well on fabrics. The shop vac pulls the dirt out after the cleaner puts it into solution.

Don't be surprised if it doesn't work on these old boats, though. That old fabric gets "dry-rotted" (lousy term, its actually the degrading of the plastic fibers) and will never be right after that. Bruce's suggestion is worth a try, though. If that fails its time to pull out the old Boating Supply catalog and start looking for a roll of new material...

I will give the cleaning a try as suggested. Maybe I'll get lucky. Thanks

We got a shark steam cleaner and did a lot of cleaning if you find a hand held steamer they work best as most of the area to work in is small corners some one smoked like a fiend in this boat befor our purchase and now it looks like new was a ton of work but the effort paid off also got a special bottel of smoke out from a fire and restoration company to mix into the soapalso avalable at janitor supply stores good luck

Same boat here, 1982 vintage.

I hired a carpet cleaning company to come in and hit it professionally when I bought it, including a deodorizer. It's held up very well since, I immediately replaced and resealed all the port windows.

That carpet is put in before the boat is put together, I would NOT recommend any one try to replace it unless you are interested in a really big job. I tend to bite off some pretty big projects, but not enough patience for that one here.

I have an 89 Santego and cleaned the carpet twice, once with woollite and a scrub brush, then the following week with resolve and a sponge, using my big shop vac after each cleaning. Came out ok, but I am looking to replace soon.
