Been on the Thames at that point. Tidal currents can run very fast. I wonder why he did not use the locks to bypass the bridge.

BTW...Nice use of the bow thruster (in the wrong direction) at :36 into the film...
 
Yeah, I'm not sure this was about current more than it was incompetence.

I couldn't decide which sounded worse - the crunching fiberglass, or the giggles of the twit with the camera.

Current can be deadly if misjudged. Couple of days ago, we were coming into Staniel Cay when someone called a mayday we re aground. We rep zoomed being only a few minutes away and it turned out to be a recent uniesse 65 that was pinned on a (well charted, well known, well marked) rock/reef. Worst they were on an outgoing tide...

We were able to pass a line (our back up anchor rode) which unfortunately snapped. I knew it was a long shot but worth a try. Then luckily a local salvor arrived with proper gear. It took them 4 hours to wget the boat off the reef after rigging a crash pump and a couple of lift back just in case. Running gear was wrecked but boat remained dry despite some serious gouges, owners got off and salvor towed the boat to Nassau with the just the captain on board.

After we left the scene and docked at SCYC I went back with the tender while the salvor was working. Captain said he lost power and was carried into the rock by the current.

Interested in seeing the pics Pascal. You talking about the rocks/reef directly to the south of SCYC docks? Those rocks plus the current were intimidating when we were there. We also saw a 70'-ish Ocean Alexander run aground on the west side of the channel closer to thunderball. Sometimes its less stress to time arrivals around slack tide!
 
So when you say lost power I assume that means both motors?
What make 2 motors fail at the same time besides a single fuel tank, which most boats don't have?
 
Control failure? A buddy of mine had his glendenning electric controls go out on him. Not fun.

And I know Pascal has had a near failure of a pneumatic controls on a particular boat delivery... Zip-ties to the rescue. LOL

Yeah that was hairy but there was a very handy cool headed owner On board :)

The Uniesse was on the small rock north East of SCYC, in the cut to the sound just at the defunct club Thunderball

No idea how he lost power on both engines, maybe he was coming in real low on fuel or maybe he just misjudged the current A few months ago, a jet drive 100 footer came in so low on fuel that he lost power and ended up anchoring off the dock :)
