How to launch...or not, a police boat.

Practice is important. I admired how they got the boat to turn bow down the ramp. A little more speed and it would have floated off the trailer ready to zoom away for urgent action.
 
Sadly this is the level of expertise in some local marine units. True that many are professional, but there are some that are totally clueless. One example was in Pensacola, Fl many years ago. My daughter and I were on the boat, she was at the wheel....I had been explaining the difference between the burdened vessel and the stand on vessel. Shortly the local marine patrol boat approached an a high rate of speed (no lights, no siren), I had been explaining that she should hold her course and watch for them to alter speed or course ... also telling her that a collision was to be avoided in all cases. Sure enough if I had not pulled the throttle back and come to almost a complete stop we would have been a statistic! I could also relate a story about the only scratch on a new boat, but that is for another day!
 
Clearly it come off the ball... I wonder if they followed what we teach in Chapter Two of the Boating Class:

1. Ball Size must match Coupler Size (wonder if the cops try to load one caliber in another magazine...)

2. 7-10% of Trailer Weight on Hitch (surprised it didn't unhitch on the road...)

The L.E. who got wet and had to swim is probably going to go on disability, and then we'll see news of him participating in Triathlons eventually and wonder how this happens.
 
Notice the guys in the water kept their weapons and accessories on while wading deeper & submerging them. This may have been in case some Asian flying fish tried to carpe their per-diem.

And, the trailer jack appeared to be jacked ...down... before backing on the ramp which appears to be at least a large part of why the tongue was forced off the ball. What's the radio code for trailer-jacking? 86?

At least no one opened fire on the fleeing fugitive craft & trailer. (OK that was kind of a let-down.)

That finely-honed LEO team really earned their Soggy Donut medals on that mission.

Our local LEOs wear them before the boat is launched.

Because authority doesn't like it's made to look bad and shown to be any thing less than perfect.
