Hudson Water Club at Haverstraw Marina

We went there last night and the quality of the food was not as good as our previous ventures. The soup was not warm enough, and my burger had to be sent back twice because it was over cooked.

I would be scared to send food back the second time.

MJK

When I sent it back the second time, I told them to keep it, the manager came over, apologized and took it off the bill. It really is not that hard to cook a hamburger medium, both times it came out well done.

Mike, I think you might be hanging around my tribe a little to much, you are really starting to sound like a few of my relatives !!!

Same old story different name for the past 15 plus years. They try tp impress in the Spring but when the summer gets going they suck. Service goes way down hill and so does the quality of food.

What I don't understand is why would you go to a high end resturant and order a burger...[:-boggled]

Next time you want a burger, try someplace like Parrot Bay or Babe's. Let the high end place serve high end food... IMHO

I would not exactly call The Hudson Water Club high end. There prices reflect the water front view. The last 2 times I have been there the food has been less than average. The chef sure is not afraid to use the salt shaker. And if he cant cook a simple burger how is he going to cook anything else. Its a shame, they really did a nice job and food was good the beginning of the year. They either lost a good cook or he has limited hours there. One thing for sure, its going to be a while before I go back...

Doubt the Chef would have cooked the burger, more likely would be a grill station guy/girl, but it would be his overall responsibility to train them properly. It's such a transient business though, very difficult to get/keep good people. I left restaurants in the early 80's, never looked back.

We are in the marina every week-end and often several days during the week. It would be great to dine at the Water Club without having to get in the car and leave, but that's just no longer an option.

We use to love Scoozie's which has since closed and Annie's when we wanted good food at very reasonable pricing. Now it's Pasta Cucinna's, Babe's and occasionaly the Red Rock Cafe.

Crystal Bay in Peekskill fell by the waist side too. If you're looking for great food head to City Island.

Noel's is pretty good as well. I like their Gaelic steak.

Blackdog,

Where to eat on City Island? Do you get a dock or anchor out?

John;

Where is Noel's? Is it the Irish place, next to the hardware store?

Sorry, but when I was there last season the menu suggested to me it was high end.. Alot of fufu dishes and pricey Martini's but what do I know I'm from Orange County...

Regardless, I would never go there and order a burger... a nice sea food dish or filet or something along those line but no way a burger.

It's kind of like going to the Benz dealership and asking to see the Hyundia....

Actually, Leigh, one of the people in our party ordered a burger that came out perfectly cooked, she gave me half and it was delicious.

The Water Club is by no means "high end" - the only thing I find pricy there are the martinis. The rest of the food, while more expensive than Parrot Bay or SPBM is not outrageously priced.

I've been there three times this year, two were excellent, one was mediocre - however, management stepped up and treated me right. They offered me another meal, but since I ate half of the good one, I declined. When one of our party asked for a few french fries (hers were cold) they brought out 3 full bowls of fries.

Hey, there are plenty of places to go, next time I'll probably go somewhere else. That's what's great about this country, you can go eat anywhere you want!

That's the place Pete. Been there a fair number of times and the food has always been very good.

True that.. I have only eaten there once last season and it wasn't a burger...

I ordered a burger because it was on the menu. I figured since it was on the menu it was ok to order it. If they did not want to make burgers it would not have been on the menu. Also Wife does not eat Fish or most of what was on menu, Am I suppose to leave her home? Hummmm that is a thought, forget that one! [:-smirk]

We have had actually had a rather good burger in the past so I had recommended the place to several friends.

Being from Orange County does not make us bad, We still like good meals. Oh wait I am only a transplant... ;)

Did I notice Halligan's opening at Patriot Square (same strip as Pasta Cucina)? if it's the same as the one in Warwick, should be good "pub grub".

Been to Halligan's in Warwick a couple of times...not impressed, won't return. If you're in Warwick, try Yesterday's (on the main drag) for the best burger in the area.
