So what is everyone thinking with this?

Still too early to tell but looks like it could slam us.

Could be another Irene, not a Sandy. Irene was alot of wind and high surf but didn't have the surge of Sandy.

I think were in trouble wind wise....

Not a lot choices ....

Rob

Sandy hit at a full moon high tide. They moon will be less than half IF this one hits.

Yeah I am not coming out. Last time boats in the water did better.
They haven't put boats behind me yet, and hopefully they don't.
I pull down the canvas on Saturday, that will suck because then U might as well leave it down since plan to come out 10/24.
Was looking forward to one last trip columbus day, then change oil and haul.

I am hoping this is a non event but I do expect we will flood over bulkhead, moon or not.

I was in the water for Sandy and did well. For the record I wanted to come out but the lift broke - I got lucky. But I would think in most cases it is better to be out of the water. The Sandy surge was not the norm and let's hope it does not happen again for a very, very long time. If I was not heading to Westhampton for Columbus Day, I would pull it and call it a season, but I think I will stay in and hope for the best.

My marina is pretty far inland. Double the lines and hope for the best.

High tide is already higher then normal. The surge from the storms preceding Joaquin may play a role in how much flooding we get. Anyone who has a boat in the water that is trailer-able should get it out and move it to higher ground.
Batten down the hatches and hope for the best. Anyone needing help, I am available.

Good luck,

Billy K.

Here in Merrick the big concern is wind ... The marina is wide open to the bay !

Were on floaters ... so as long as the lines don't fail surge is fine ... WIND BAD

I think I'm coming out and season over ...

Rob

Now they show it as a tropical storm hitting us.
Those winds will be less though still high.

I still feel for us, in the water is better.

Looks like Joaqin is going to remain at sea as it moves North. Predicted to be cat 1 or TS force by the time it gets up to you guys.

I am hauling boat. Spoke to insurance. They will cover haul. This weekend is a waste. Next weekend we were suppose to go to Westhampton but found out bridges don't open after 4:00 so that messes up that trip since we have work Friday and Monday. So probably just drive out to meet friends for the oyster festival.
After that I was just going to start changing oil and then haul out.

Season over.

I have travelers, they split the cost on the haul.

Sucks

Latest weather report said that it is going to pass east of us. We'll get some wind and rain if this path holds up, but not the hurricane. Keeping my fingers crossed.

David, some ships have already sortied, the rest are to be able to get underway within 24 hrs if needed. Waiting to hear if my Fleet Surgical Team is going anywhere for disaster relief.
