Hurricane Sandy

Wow. Hadda be 4ft plus higher than irene. Unreal.outside stinks of fuel oil. Someone tank let go. I am s of montauk in west islip just south of 231 if u know the area. Just devastating and that's in the dark. Water chest deep in the street. This is unprecedented. See what 10am tide brings
 
I have heard the flooding in NYC is incredible. Buildings flooded, tunnels, subways, roads. I am afraid to see what my marina looks like tomorrow. I hope I can get out of work to even see how bad it is, no less be able to drive anywhere.

Tomorrow is going to be incredible.

If anyone gets to there marinas today please keep us posted with details. I won't be able to see if I have to call my State Farm Agent until late tonight. Prayers for all effected with there homes.

Lighthouse Marina in Aquebogue seems to have done relatively well. It did flood but did not seem to get above the pilings.

Eastport marina came through OK. They had about a foot of water in the main building, which has been cleaned out. The solid dock was severely damaged, but the floating docks and all the boats on land and in the water came through OK. Hats off to a fantastic crew who moved boats faster than I thought possible and who were down there yesterday, well into the clean-up. Our Cruisers is fine. We were lucky; our house had no real damage and we got our power back at 4:30 this morning. The weirdest thing is that we have high=voltage transmission lines running north and south on the other side of our street. During the storm, the support poles - each about 18" in diameter, all snapped like matchsticks. The poles, running about three blocks, are leaning across the strret, with two almost on the street. The only thing holding them up is that the wires are tangled in the trees on our side of the block. The fire department had strung yellow warning tape accross the street and the intersections, but people have driven right thought the tape. People stop to take photos. Stay safe, all. Hy
 
Heartwrenching to follow this tread. Left 2 years ago and fell like I should be there doing something but I bet there's lots of hopelessness up there after something this big. Trite as it may sound, it's all stuff and will replaced, lives cannot be sadly to those lost.
 
Well many of the boats at Begen Point are in a state of disaray...my buddies boat was on blocks and is now back in the water, can't discern what shape its in. All the boats at Bergen look as though they were simply pushed in the lot all bunched up with my boat dead in the middle, but untouched! Mud everywhere, cinder blocks everywhere. What a mess, it will be a long messy job.....
 
I think we got lucky. We are at Bergen also, our boat is on the north end of the lot. Still up on blocks and no apparent damage. There is a smaller boat touching our boat, I dont think it is leaning on it. I think we made out ok. But the place is messy.
