I haulled my 97' 330 at Holly Bluff Marina in Deland Florida last Monday. They pulled the props and sent them off to be reconditioned. They pulled the stenchions and pressed out the bearings. They did not have to drill the screws out. They are allen bolts, one on each side. They only charged me a total of two hours of labor and the props only cost $92.50 each to recondition. They used Lifecaulk when re-installing the stenchions.

My son and I were there the whole time and we made it as easy as we could for them by removing as much of the boat to stern as we could (seat cushions, rear seat, carpet, etc.). We were there for a reason other than just getting in there way and we stayed out of their way for the most part only asking very few questions. We compounded the enitre hull with my variable speed Nakita Polisher and then put two coats of wax on it as well. Man does it shine like a mirror! We worked about 12 hours over two days to do the hull. above the bottom paint

The haul-out parts and labor was under $875 and at cruise I am a full 1.2 knots faster according to the gps! And yes my son and I really bonded and were proud of our work and time together.
 
Bob, I'm facing the same project soon, so your cost figures give me a sigh of relief. I assume a stenchion is a strut? If so, did they discuss different options on replacing the bearings? Was doing it with the stenchion/strut in place an option? Did they discuss pulling out the shaft?

Your prop work is less than 1/3rd of what I've been quoted around here from a prop-scan shop. Do you know if they used a prop-scan? Did they tune the props to a specific standard, or was it just a quick balance and polish?
 
Bob You got a real bargain I just had my 2 props repaired at a cost of $850.00 they are now going to replace the cutlass bearings at a cost of about $1000.00. this Est. is based on 10 Hrs. labour ** $92.00 Hr. + parts. They will be pulling the shaft to get the old bearings out
 
Strut is the right term sorry about that. There is a tool specially designed to press the bearings out while the shaft and strut are in place but unless the yard does a lot of them they either pull the shaft or the strut. With my configuration it was more work to pull the shafts that the struts. If you can find a yard near you with that tool the labor should be a lot less. When I checked with Marine Max they were going to charge me 3 hours labor per bearing as a reference point.

My props were not that bad and I do not know exactly what they did other than "fix" them. I did not see the invoice coming back from the actual prop place but I do have pictures at home up close of the props. The boat run much smoother however, my port cutlass was almost worn completely smooth. my props are 19 x 19 so I am sure the size, material and how bad a shape they are initially in makes a big differnece on the cost.

My boat has been in pretty much fresh water for the last year and a half and the props and struts came off as they were supposed to as apposed to using extra force. No drilling was required to remove the bearings as well. I consider my self fortunate that everything went so well.

My single largest cost was the haul-out and setting it on stands. The yard fees were $80/hour which helped as well.
