I missed her too much . . . & windlass install

So, I bought a zippered door and installed it on my boat. I missed her too much and had to get inside. I cleaned the cabin a bit and took some more measurements for my windlass installation. It looks as if the deck above the anchor locker is already double as thick, I suppose to install a windlass without a backer plate. It's a good 2"+ thick.

I bought all the materials for the windlass so the install will be done in a few weeks, hopefully it will warm up a bit. I got a Lewmar Horzon 500 with a Delta 14lb anchor. This is more than enought holding power for my (large) 22' Searay. I also got the new 8-Brait anchor line, which has been endorsed by major windlass manufacturers to be ther best type of rode to run through the gypsy. I have a fairly small anchor locker and this line takes up like a quarter of the space of 3-strand. I bought 200' of line spliced to 10' of chain, which is plenty of rode for me. I don't go where it's too deep.

As always advice or tips for the installation are appreciated, but no need, i'm sure i'll be fine, i'm a carpenter and half a$$ed mechanic. I'm really looking forward to the coming boating season and the windlass installation. Soon enough we'll all be in the wet! Cheers!

You might still want to think about that backing plate. Especially if that deck is cored, which I believe most if not all Sea Rays are. The windlass, over time, will put an incredible amount of stress on the deck. Without a backing plate you are almost guaranteed to open up a leak with the through bolts flexing. Once water gets into that core, it's all over. Also don't be stingy with the 5200. Good luck.
