Citing a lack of help from Broward County, the owner of the ferry service that buses people around local waterways expects to run out of money this weekend and is uncertain whether he can keep operating.
County commissioners agreed three months ago to keep Water Taxi afloat with higher fares, dock space at Port Everglades and even tax subsidies if necessary. But Water Taxi owner Bob Bekoff said Wednesday that he has spent $225,000 of his own money since then to buy gas, pay insurance bills and cover other expenses because no final agreement has been reached other than the fare increase.
