The ice from my ice maker tastes real bad... Is there something i can do to make the ice maker make cleaner tasting ice.....
Mike

Tell Dave to stop pissing in your ice maker :)

Your fresh water tank is the culprit, add a little bleach, let is sit for a day or so, flush the water and then repeat. Do this like three times, and then flush a few more times without bleach. After that you should be good to go.

I have also used some basic water refreshener treatment that I got from my boat store. Used the measurements they say on the directions, let the tank sit for a day, then flushed it out and re-filled. Worked perfectly.

put a filter on the water line into the ice maket

After you clean the tank and lines, yes, you have to run the bleach throughout the system, put a good under the sink water filter in the feed line to the ice maker.
Don't forget to purge the system by dumping three or four buckets of ice over the side.

If your ice taste like Sh*t make sure that you didn't cross you waste line with you fresh water tank. If not treat your tank then flush several times but adding a filter is a good idea.
I buy bags of ice and but them in the ice maker even though it works I like the taste of good ice.

LOL Walter Thanks for the heads up bout Dave..
Thanks guys for all the info
Mike

And don't let the water sit in your tank. If you are not using the fresh water tank on a regular basis, don't bother just use the local water from the dock. If you let the water sit in your tank a couple of weeks without being used, you will be back to the start.

A good quality scotch can do a lot to improve the taste of poor quality water. If it is really bad keep the water to scotch percentage to less than 25%. If really really bad add only a few drops of water to the scotch.

Actually replacing the water altogether with gin and tonic prevents malaria. Including citrus will avert scurvy as well.

Took my ice maker out. I don't drink the water in the tanks and don't want the ice it makes in my drinks?

not sure how your ice maker is hooked up but I have a industrial machine at home (makes 500lbs of ice a day) and if you go on line they sell chemicals that clean the collector plate. not sure if that works with your machine. but a filter and cleaning will take care of your problem. On my machine you have to be careful of what you use or you can ruin the nickel plating. For what its worth.

BINGO.........and stop using pink to winterize your system.......think compressed air !

Don,
Since I have a ice maker now, you will have to show me the compressed air method.
How do you get all the water out of the fresh water tank with air?

We don't use the ice maker for making ice, but rather a glorified ICE CREAM / ICE POP holder. We are a big hit with the kids, amazing how peaceful it can get when you start handing out ice pops.

Dave.....I just use the fresh water pump to pump the water tank out......then drain the water out of the pump. If there's a little water left in the tank .....its ok.

The ice maker gets pulled out and brought in the house....for the winter.

Don

You must like to rough it, or is it that you need ice at home and only have one ice maker? :D

Dave, get a buddy that knows electrons to hotwire the solenoid for the icemaker fill valve. Once you have most of the water out of the system, and air pressure, you flip the switch a few times until you only hear air coming out. I ran the switch to the front of the unit and left it just behind the grate at the bottom. In the fall I take the grate off so I can flip the switch.

Dan......Im just anal.....I like to keep the gears and motor in the ice maker ......warm...dry and happy.

pulling the ice maker seems like a lot of work. I would prefer to get all the water out and leave it.

Ok, will research in fall, all this winterizing talk is depressing me!
