I'm very happy (and lucky) I'm out

Hi Walshie,

It makes me wonder what they're smoking in that underwater dive apparatus Rommer has there??? :)

As for the damage to your boat.. ouch and whew!!!! I guess it definitely could have been a lot worse. I'll be curious to see how you make out on the repairs.

I guess you could say Chris is struting his stuff.

Was that Chris that was struting his stuff or was it Pete?

Center the shaft in the log (align the strut to the log). Once that is in alignment, align the engine to the shaft. Easy to say, possible to do yourself, but could take all weekend figuring out the delicacies of making the damn strut stay where you wanted it as you tighten it up!

Also, you might want to think about find a metalurgist to tell you why the strut failed. I contracted one once to tell me why my volvo pistons kept failing and it was money well spent. Figure a couple hundred bucks if you want a report and all, or if your willing to stop by and just have one take a gander and give an opinion without writeup, much less (maybe coffee if you offer to take him fishing).

You want to rule out metal fatigue or corrosion. If confirmed of either, you want to make sure you find out the cause and correct.

Chris, Sorry to see your having trouble with your boa!

Yes, Chris' boa has been the topic of concern for some time now. Between his boa and Rommer's Croc's, HRCC has been sporting new mens' fashion trends including, but not limited to, mascara, rouge, umbrellas in drinks and black velvet swim trunks.

Have you forgotten about Pete's pink leather thong????

This forum is out of control! Now whats the deal with Petes thong??? LOA...

You don't want to know Al. It's old...very old, but it keeps popping up here ad nauseum.

Wow, this particular post could sure be taken the wrong way!!! We're starting to sound like LICC in here

Mike we're not even close. They totally "outclass" us. ;)

Are you guys talking about us again? :)

Hey Chris,
That sucks man; the good thing is it happened at the end of the season. If it was me, I would exhaust every resource available to find out why and how this happened. I would not feel comfortable thinking this could happen again or happen on the other side.

Someone mentioned that maybe this may have happened at your dock on low tide that would explain why you never felt anything. It may have happened between your last trip and when you putted over to have your boat hauled. Maybe you could dive down and see what is on the bottom of your slip.

Best of luck

Walter

PS
Are posts on the LICC are very educational. :)

Walter, go back to LICC and talk about how you are going to knock some poor, old fisherman out of his boat with your wake.

PS - when you do it, make sure you post some pix.

She could always just use a pillow at night.

BTW - this forum is currently only for active boaters. Since your boat is on land with shrinkwrap you'll have to stop posting until Hogan officially goes into winter mode with the forum. I believe that will be sometime in November ;)

Back to the actual thread itself, this shaft had no support for some time. You must have had some vibration? You're lucky you didn't loose the shaft and prop too. I would definitely get the shaft and prop serviced. I'd also keep an eye on the trans or V-drive for a seal leak at the shaft coupling due to excess vibration.
