I've owned a diesel express cruiser for 20 years.

Repowered her 15 years ago with twin Yanmar 6LP's and a Northern Lights genset LOVE THIS BOAT

For my needs, and that of my family, this is the perfect setup

Also, at age 64 I can and will continue to be capable of single handling this layout vessel

Thinking about moving up from a 33' to a 45'

more space, more storage, more water, bigger galley, more privacy, transom door and big assed swim platform for the dinghy

No gas outboards, NO POD DRIVES and no Detroits puts me for the most part late 1990's - mid 2000's slot.

Ideal motors would be Cummins 6CTA @450

Considering Tiara, Formula or SeaRay at this moment.

I know that the THT crowd caters more to outboards & fishing styles, but just wanted to get your opinion on the COMPARATIVE market for this type of boat.

Are these big inboard diesels really dinosaurs, and if so, how much competition should I expect as I search the market?

This style was hot 20-30 years ago - seems not so much today, ESPECIALLY FOR THE MODEL YEARS I AM SEEKING.

What say you?

BEST !

There should be many on the market as they were very popular back then.

Tiara with that power package or qsc Cummins are great boats. Also the 41 formula pc with Cummins

Have you tried the late 90s Tiara 40 Express? Enormous boat.

Speaking of Tiara, I've always admired the lines and cabin layouts in the 32'-40' Express and Open models. But I've read that many of the older boats (90's to early 00's +/-) have hull moisture and delamination problems. I'd welcome some input on how widespread this really is and whether Tiara changed their construction techniques along the way.

Never heard that. I think Tiara’s are almost bulletproof.

I just picked up a Formula 41PC with 480hp Volvos.

I had one before with 450 Cummins and thought that would be the only solution for me, but I have to say the Volvo’s run very sweet

Mine has been indeed... 20 year old boat still going strong and looking like new. Not to mention the 'customer' service from Tiara, even for old boat owners like me who never bought a new boat from them. They respond to me about everything, no matter how small.

The used boat market will be interesting to watch. We are also looking to move up (ALMOST made an offer two weeks ago), but there is very little out there that fits our preferences, really almost nothing in the last 15-20 years. I guess I'm looking for dinosaur boats too... We'll probably end up somewhere in the mid '70s to mid '90s... Likely a Hatt or Tolly, but we are thinking a Tiara convertible may also be an option for staying with the brand.

Will be curious to see what you end up with!

I always value your input, Ernesto. We're still evaluating larger Albin TE's and the 35CB. Starting to study the Tiara line 32'-36' Open or Express. I don't want a flybridge boat again especially if it doesn't have a lower helm.

We are having the same challenge as you trying to find something that matches our wish list. It doesn't seem like it should be this difficult!

I have owned an Albin 35 TE (fly bridge) with B series Cummins. I recently purchased a Tiara 38 Open with C series 450 Cummins. I thought both boats were quality built but I must say that the Tiara is the top of the pile when it comes to performance in all the sea conditions I care to be in.
