We were downtown yesterday and noticed that the fomrer Inner Harbor Marina - the one near the Rusty Scupper - was totally empty of boats and a huge barge platform was sitting there.

Turns out they are totally renovating for Spring and reopening as the Inner Harbor Marine Center. Interersting that one of the features will be an individual pumpout station at each slip.

I'm currently across the Inner Harbor at Inner Harbor East. You are correct that Inner Harbor is closed "for renovation". However, I've seen no evidence of construction activity since I've been there in November. Secondly, I wonder why they had to completely close the Marina to do updates? I could see moving boats temporarily, but complete closure does not make sense... BTW, the facility is owned by the city and leased to the operators... it got a new operator in 2004... I wonder IF or WHEN it will reopen and in what state of "update".

There are some DNR rules about driving pillings, after Nov. 15 if the job hasen't already started, and this could be a stumblin block if they haven't got going?

Jim - that sure doesn't sound too promising. It seemed odd especially since the docks were in good shape last time we that way at the dockmaster's office.

Hope it doesn't mean they were sold for condos.

That is good news IF IT IS ACCURATE... My office overlooks the harbor... A construction barge (with crane for driving piles) was moved in there along the outer edge of the marina within the last week. I've detected no activity each day since it was placed there... I cannot see any "new docks installed last week" and see no demo or removal of old docks as of today by looking at it. I'll try to drive over there on Friday on my way home...I hope the stories are accurate.

I rechecked from my 17th floor vantage point today - the construction barge has been moved to a position in a fairway between docks, but still no people, construction supplies, activity etc. visable, nor do any docks/slip fingers appear to be "new". I'll keep watching!

The Inner Harbor Marina project stalled temporarily as a result of a State bridge project that took precedence for the contractor.

The former Inner Harbor Marina docks have been donated to the Downtown Sailing Center at the Baltimore Museum of Industry through an agreement with the City of Baltimore and State of Maryland.

The contractor handling the Inner Harbor Marina construction project will be installing the 'donated' docks for the sailing center.

For more information on the sailing center project, check the link: http://www.downtownsailing.org/CapitalCampaign/docks.html

Update: on Friday the work barge was apparently pulling pilings in order to remove the existing floating docks. Apparently they are finally getting started on this upgrade!

Inner Harbor East was at the Baltimore Boat show and the reps claim they will reopen early in May.

Leviathan1 just confused me. Inner Harbor East is in operation. Inner Harbor Marina is what we are all talking about is it not? They are 2 different places.

Plexi1 is accurate - there are 2 marinas... Inner Harbor is being reconstructed, while Inner Harbor East (where my boat is...) is in normal operations.
