I plan to change the fluid in my duoprop outdrive. In order to remove the props I ordered a volvo prop wrench set. The directions call for the props to be torqued to 45 lbs for the front and 50 lbs for the rear. My new prop socket for the front prop will not fit a torque wrench. One marine shop told a dock neighbor, who called because he wants to change the fluid on his houseboat duo drives, that using a torque wrench was not necessary that they just need to be tight. I am waiting for a call back from the shop where I purchased the boat but thought I would see if anyone has had this experience. I know I can modify the new socket to use with a torque wrench but don't want to if not necessary. Thanks for your thoughts.

I remove my props on my SX drives every year and never use a torque wrench. I use to have a DP and don't recall using a torque wrench as well. I would just tighten them to what you feel is 45 and 50 lbs and you feel comfortable that they are on tight.

Go to sears and get an adaptor to make it fit. For the Bravo III tool I had a 1/2" to 3/4" adaptor I used.

We made an adapter to enable the use of a torque wrench just satisfy my need to follow the directions! The nuts did not feel very tight when I removed them. I guess 45-50 lbs is not alot of pressure. On the reinstall I tightened them using the short handle which came with the wrench set I purchased. I then used the torque wrench to see if additional pressure was needed to tighten to the torque specs. It did not take very much. So it seems that using the the short handled wrench would be sufficient if you don't have access to a torque wrench.
