Hi all,
I recently came into possession of a '74 35' double cabin Chris Craft when my father passed away early last year. I decided that I would like to keep the boat. But now I finding it hard to find an insurance carrier to cover it. My dad had it covered for liability and I am at least trying to keep the same coverage.
The boat was with USAA and they said along with a few other places roughly the same thing. That the age of the boat and my not having previously owned a boat, that they would need a haul out survey and even then most likely they would not cover it.
I have both my auto and home with USAA, have a clean record, taken the Coast Guard boaters course a few years ago. And know this boat better then my dad even did as I spent nearly every weekend there both summer and winter. And have done most of the work on it myself.
Of course the boat is winterized now in the wate,r in a marina, on the Ohio river Cincinnati. Now I am told I need to haul it? De-winterize, haul it, survey, re-winterize? And even then they may not cover it?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I am about at my wits end. If nobody wants cover it now I am worried about even selling it.
