I made a big mistake today I called BoatUS and told them I moved my boat to Stamford CT and they said no problem but it will increase my rate a bit. A bit turned out to be more then double my price coming in at over $5500. I told them they are insane so the found a way to offer my a discount for my car policies on Geico which lowered it to about $5000. Needless to say I'm looking for a new provider I looked about a year ago and got very frustrated and ended up staying with BoatUS but this is out of control. My boat is a 96 and as such some companies won't even write a policy which I really don't understand, there are much older boats out there! Looking for suggestion on who you use and why.

I went with Progressive back in 2009 when State Farm whom I have my home, 3 vehicles and a boat decided to double my premium. When I bought my '89 cruiser in 2011, Progressive didn't require a survey and was still cheaper than any alternative I could find at the time. Never had a claim in my 40+ years of boating, but your results may differ. I'd advise checking around-lots of recommendations for insurance on this website.

Call The Mott Agency http://www.boat-ins.com/
Been using them for decades. you may need a recent survey, I did. as i was just buying this boat it was no issue for me.
I have all my non boating insurance with State Farm, they wanted close to $6K,Mott got me into BRIT and i pay less than $3K
Also they write a bunch of policies for LI sound boaters
Ask for Kristen or Kathy & tell them i referred you

I spoke to a Britt agent yesterday I will have a quote today.
Progressive refused to write a policy when I called them several months ago because the boat is more then 20 years old.

Well if you get a bad outcome from BRIT call Mott and see is by using a broker is better than going directly to the insurance company.

I call a broker in LI may even be the same office.
