Interior Teak finish 3227

Any idea what Carver used on 1986 3227 to finish the interior teak? Thought it was just oiled but a closer look seems to be some kind of varnish. Does appear to be original. Thanks.
 
it is oil...many layers of hand rubbed in oil which gives it a nice satin sheen. I redid my exterior teak the same way as they did at the factory and it looks like new
 
Kenny, Is that just any marine teak oil? Is there any trick to the last coat or process since it has a sealed look or is that just age?
 
I thought they used Minwax back then, Kenny. I remember reading something about it in one of the boating magazines in one of the tests of the 3207 years back, and also a salesman had said something to me about "polyurethane" at a boat show. So I assumed they meant Minwax polyurethane finish, most likely a satin. If that's NOT what Carver used, its still a nice way to do it - I've tried it on my own boat...
 
I believe it's just age geomut. When I redid my interior, I useda golden teak oil (Starbrite, I believe)and hand rubbed it in with a towel..I rubbed pretty hard and gave it 6 applications. When the last application "cured", there was the nice factory sheen left.

Pete, I don't think they ever used minwax, but I might be able to check with folks who are still there from that era. Minwax would be a less time consuming way to do it though and probably provide better protection.

I do remember when having to repair factory teak, that whatever we did to repair (and we didn't use minwax) matched perfectly
 
I used Minwax (SATIN) in the galley area last year. Tinted to match the wood color. Put it on with a rag instead of a brush (liberally rubbed it on). The tint really helped restore some of those more weathered areas. I like the outcome. Plan to do the rest of the interior the same way this year.
 
Kenny, please find out what they used, if possible, on both the OEM and the repair. I'm sure it would be very helpful to all of us :) ...

No stain that my source knew of (she's been there since 1980) Just the Mohawk over teak
 
Thank to all for the assist. Will let you know how this works our. Ken, you helped me a few years ago on Airpac breakers through the Carver (Yahoo) group. Not sure if that is running any more.
 
I'm not sure either...I haven't been there in a while. Nothing ever seemed to happen there. This forum is much more active.

Doin the same project in a few. Used regualar teak as well and worked goodly but seems to fade fast. Great info, much appriciated.
 
there is a minwax wipe on urethane that is probably similar to the brand Carver used.
