Intermittent no start

I would install a test light AFTER the slave solenoid. Observe the light when the problem occurs. It might be the key switch or a loose safety switch. Also check all of the wires noted by the other posts. You might want to tap the starter with a rubber mallet too. I would not replace the thermostat. Your blower is pushing air, right?

Check the ground from batt to engine block. Don't just look at it. remove it and sand/scrape or wire wheel it. Smear Di-electric silicone grease on any contact area.

After that is secure, replace the starter/ignition switch and check that neutral safety switch.

Checked all the connections by removing and reconnecting. All were very ckean.

Replaced the thermostat with a 140 degree. Let's see if that works!

What dies thermostat have to do with it?????

Did you check battery cable connections and ground connections???

Bruce, my theory is that heat is keeping the starting circuit from working. Each time this has happened, it corrected itself after cool down. My thought is that keeping the engine 20* cooler will alleviate, or just possibly mask, the problem.

Waste of time. Find and fix the problem.

People have offered some good suggestions above.

Went out today with the new thermostat. Engine stayed around 150 degrees with the 140 degree thermostat. Shutdown and tried to start. NOTHING. However.....

Without having to open the hatch, I tried 4 or 5 times and it restarted on the 5th time, then 10 times straight.

What part of the starting system electronics are sensitive to heat?

When I had 454's, my coils were sensitive to heat and problem cleared up after changing.

Did you install the test light after the slave solenoid? Do that and then reinstall the proper therm. If you don't do that, this thread will continue through Sept.

I didn't install a test light. Can you give me a little more info on that? a simple 2 wire 12 volt light, ground to ground and then the other wire would tap into the hot wire that goes from the slave solenoid to the starter?
