Is this the real deal? I hope not! This weekend may be a rough one. I plan to head to the boat this afternoon and prepping for the worst. I bow in so I plan to turn the boat around and double up on lines. Last year I took a hit I don't want to go through that again.

Anyone else a little uptight about this one?

Too early to get worried but for sure, if I were you, I'd flip my boat around. I would also check the lines of the boat in front of yours to make sure she doesnt break looseand clobber yours.

What about canvas...If I remove my canvas, my bridge will be soaked. It's only a year old so I would like to think it's as strong as it's ever going to be.

It's a boat. They are made to get wet so I would not worry about the bridge getting soaked.Your electronics should also be water proof.

This is really when buying the extra finger so I have them on bioth sides pays off. Six lines on her at all times.

I'm going to pull down my isenglass and put the mooring cover on.

In my view canvas can't handle 100 mph winds. It will break off it's snaps unless you have those twist snaps.
I am pulling it all down and putting up my cockpit cover.
The more streamlined you make the boat the better.

This really stinks, I was suppose to go on vacation!

The advantages of having a trailer boat. Mine is on the trailer in my driveway until Irene passes, then back in the slip.

I don't have a cockpit cover...but in any event, I will remove all canvas and any cushions I can.

I'm going to take down my canvas and put on the cockpit cover, on Saturday afternoon - so long as we're on course to get whacked.

5 day track shows it going up the Hudson River!
This is gonna be ugly.
I feelt like I am playing hot potatoe!
Wait, is there a "e" on potato?
Where is Dan Quayle when you need him!

Good luck to you all. We spent Wednesday taking down canvas, doubling up lines placing extra fenders, and it all now seems for not.

I wish the same upon all of you.

Yesterday checked the details of our insurance. We’re as good as can be.

Today at 5AM I went out to Greenport to check the boat in its new slip- first time I’m in this slip during rough weather, never mind a hurricane!

I have no enclosure for the bridge because its not needed, I use the lower helm in bad weather, but I have brand new canvas that covers all the seating, Bar area and dash. I made a spider web of lines and bungee cords to try and keep them in place. Lashed down the rolled up dink between the dash & seats

My new slip is great in that I’m between 2 floating fingers with tall pilings at the bow and a couple behind the stern floater. So lines to all cleats on both sides as well as to the 2 bow pilings Fenders and tuff balls on both sides and stern

Stopped by the Marina office on the way out- their pulling 25 boats just today and the phone was ringing off the hook. Sterling harbor is a great storm harbor

I set up a pan/tilt web cam on the inside steps up to the bridge and will log into it during the storm and see if the boat is still floating.

I think it will be fine as long as nothing flies into the boat and the surge is not higher than the majority of the pilings.
Oh I made sure the dockside water was off

Good luck to all and be safe

My cousins marina down by Philly called him and said they are taking all the boats out the water.

I'm on the Rondout and there were a few more boat trailers to be seen today for mid-week. Nobody's reacting too much though some people I talked with today were discussing hauling. A transient was overheard that he came up river hoping to avoid the brunt of the storm. I also noticed a number of more boats heading up the Rondout.

With "up to" 12" of rain predicted, I think flooded boats might be more an issue - especially if the power goes and bilge pumps are constantly working.

Saw naval ships being brought in on TV in VA. That should get one thinking. Or perhaps this is all a ploy to jump start the economy by all the preparedness spending.

What's Vegas doing on this?

"Saw naval ships being brought in on TV in VA"

Actually they are going to sea... Not brought in to'port!

Hmmm, newscaster had it wrong then. Also reported some ships going to drydock. CBS News.

I've seen the damage that a storm surge can cause in Roundout and Kingston creeks. Be careful.
