was reading the latest PMY issue which has articles on 3 40ish express boats. all around 40, 3 radically different designs but i couldn't believe how the US offering was almost as expensive as the British and French boats...

let's see... 397k for a 39' gas powered Searay sundancer!! vs 449k for a 42' fairline Targa with diesels and 465 for a Beneteau Flyer 41 also diesel (volvo IPS).

The fairline includes a RIB garage (at the expense of engine room space). other intersting tidbit... the beneteau has a fairly flat hull aft to "accomodate" the IPS and only 14" between engines... is this an IPS side effect? but it's pretty good looking with a big electric sunroof.

now what happens when/if the exhange rate returns to more normal levels making the european boats even more competitive?
