We've been looking at jet-boats for a few years – just a fun/cheap/easy way to spend more time on the water. Up here though, they're useless for about 6 months, so I'm wondering if I could drag it to Miami every fall instead of winterizing it. The cheapest way, if not the easiest, would be to hope that the condo nazi's would look the other way and let us store it in the parking garage and just pull it to a ramp when we want to hit the water (it's prohibited in the bylaws though, so I can't count on that). Another option would be a paid-storage lot for the boat and trailer, and I guess a third option would be rack storage and either dragging the empty trailer back up north or paying to store it somewhere (outside of town?)

So: What are the ramp options downtown? I've never seen them.

Is there ANY chance of getting rack storage? If so, what's the ballpark cost for an 18 footer?

Your best bet is probably to find a storage yard that will let you pay to park it there. Most people I know who used those places paid about $180-$250 per month in the Fort Lauderdale area.

where is your condo... i used to live on brickell, the largest concentration of condo nazis... i've seen the occasional PWC or small jet boat in my mother's building on brickell so some building may ignore it until someone without a life starts bitching that a jet boat is ugly... even though they don't mind parking their pontiac aztec in the next spot :-)

trailer storage maybe your cheapest option, there are some places... near the ramps at Crandon park for instance... of maybe even rickenbacker marina.

anyway... ramps ? Crandon Park, acorss the KB causeway... plenty of parking. Coconut grove, on the south side of Dinner Key, limited parking on week ends though.

there used to be ramps on Watson island, not sure if they're still there.

there are also a couple of ramps up the miami rive, one by 27th av. but that's a long drive down the river...

You guys are good! Thanks for the quick reply.

Brian, is $180-$250 just for YARD storage? gulp. I was hoping to get a rack for that price.

Pas, the condo is almost on top of the Tuttle. I've seen a few Jet-skis in the garage. We have a double-deep space, so I'm holding on to hope, but it could go either way.

Watson Island would almost be perfect. I'm going to check that out in Google Earth right now.

By "KB", do you mean the Rickenbacker TO KB?

The Grove would probably be my last choice - traffic down there is such a PITA in the winter...

The river, eh? That might not be bad. I'm only considering 4-stroke boats and the river fronts seems to be going through a lot of change - it wouldn't be TOO torturous to idle out to the ICW, would it? I'm thinking I'd rather idle down the river in a jet boat than idle down US1 in an SUV.

SLW, that was yard storage only. If I remember correctly rack storage was usually $500+

holy cr**p! Does anyone have advice on how to bribe condo nazis? :)

Offer a free denture cleaning service?

yes, the rickenbacker cwy to Key biscayne... you have rickenbacker marina on the left and then crandon further up on the right after seaquarium.

$ 340 semi annual for a 20 footer, rack storage

they have a large storage yard for boats on trailer... give them a call.

there are also some stored boats on Watson island, i think Mario docks his boat there, maybe he can give you some info...

dentures. lol eww.n I was thinking more along the lines of cleaning the windhshields of a few RX300's. :)

I had no idea of the prices - that's really an eye-opener.

Google Earth show me what looks like some very nice ramps, just north of Mario. In fact, I saw Mario's Hatt sitting in her slip a few days ago. No-one aboard though. Such a classy boat. I hope they hold on to her for a while.

thanks again for the good info guys.

their dry-stack prices are the same as wet slips. That really surprises me. Is that normal?
