I've heard rumors that Islander in Lindy is closing. Anyone know anything?
 
There's been a 'building for sale' sign on the building for a while but nothing up about going out of business. I wasn't sure if the dealer was closing or they rent the building from someone else who is looking to sell it.
 
John, I was concerned because they brokered a boat for a friend of mine and told her she had to wait 45 days after the sale to get her money. It's now 65 days and she's getting the run-around from them. Then I heard the rumor they might be closing so.........
 
John they own the building but they don't have a new boat line the since they lost bayliner/trophy to Marine Max at the old movie theater which just got sold to a drug store

Islander has a sign that said sea fox but I never saw one there
 
I thought Marine Max didnt own the old movie theater anymore? I thought that was either a used boat broker or Islander that bought that building..
 
Boat the name change came when the boat lines they were selling folded and they only sold used before they got bayliner it was always affiliated with Marine Max which now has bayliner down at the end of Wellwood Ave.
 
Dont know if they are closing, but I bought my boat from them four years ago, got a good deal and they followed through on all things they promised. Btw, I winter store my boat at their facility at Bergen and they seem to be very busy. So if they are hurting I would think its just the boat sales end of the business and not the marina and service end.

They also have a store in Port Jefferson. Why would she have to wait for her money at all??? That seems very strange
 
Walter, that's what I said to her. I've never heard of having to wait for your money. She said it stated on the contract she would get paid 45 days after the boat sold. I never would've signed such an agreement but apparently she did and now she's still trying to collect her money after 65 days! She gave them a clean title, no liens so there's no reason they should hold on to the money. Just makes me wonder.

Simply stated, the owner/seller should have been paid forthwith at the closing. Period. 45-days/65-days is not a good thing and a clear indication that whomever has the $$$ is having $$$ problems.

These are unusual times in business; especially small businesses; especially small boat businesses.

Question: Is the subject vessel large enough to have been documented? I'm thinking not, but cannot tell from the information submitted.
 
I would have her contact the DA, this whole deal smells!!!!
 
she should have had her money no more than 10 days after the closing. in todays world money could have been wired into her account in 3 days. she needs to contact the da and better business bureau

Maybe I am missing something here, She went to a closing, title was transferred, bank checks were giving.

The way this should have gone down :
Go to closing
Seller gets a bank check (good as cash) made out to her for the cost of the boat minus, commission and any other "agreed costs". Other disbursements from the sale get handled the same.
Having the broker get all the money is not only crazy but in NY I bet there is a law against that. If it went down the way you say Barbara, then the money should have been deposited into an "Escrow" account.

She got screwed on every venue IMHO, she should have walked away from this closing with all her money in her pocket.

She needs to report the boat "stolen"

Well, she spoke with him and emailed his response so I pasted it here:
"He called me yesterday and said he was really sorry for the delay. He told me he has money tied up in an escrow account. He said he hopes to be able to get the money to me and about 5 other people by next week and he said he is going to add interest. I told him I was concerned I would not be getting my money and that I heard he was goingout of business. He said he is not going out of business and has been IN business for 31 years.
So I will give him until next week and hopefully I will have my money." [/font=Comic Sans MS] I still say she should've had her money weeks ago!
 
I have only had really good experiences with Islander boats, my nephew has as well, 4 boats and 12 years! I hope they stay in buisness, they are by far the best and most reasonable mechanics that I have found in the area.
 
I had the total opposite experience with them, in all fairness though I was dealing with the PJ store not the Lindenhurst store.

It was so bad, that Bayliner allowed me to use my own mechanic for warranty work and they footed the bill. This was in 2001.
